ROXY MUSIC Roxy Music (Island ILPS 9200) S/T RARE UK 1st Pressing Archive MINT!
RARE UK first pressing of Roxy Music`s trailblazing debut album "Roxy Music" on Island Records (June 1972).
As close as it gets to perfection apart from a sealed record, this copy comes from my own collection. The album was bought in the late seventies and immediately archived. The record has been in storage for over 35 years. It is practically perfect.
"From the drag queen on the cover to the fop finery in the centerfold, to the polished ugliness of the music on the record, this celebrates the kind of artifice that could come to seem as unhealthy as the sheen on a piece of rotten meat, but right now it's decorated with enough weird hooks to earn an A for side one. Side two leans a little too heavily on the synthesizer (played by a balding, long-haired eunuch lookalike called Eno) without the saving grace of drums and bassline." - Robert Christgau in Creem Magazine, March 1973.
"In England in the early Seventies, there was nerdy art-rock and sexy glam-rock and rarely did the twain meet. Until this record, that is. Roxy Music mixed future-shock experimentalism in the form of Eno's synth-doodles with Old-World charm in the form of Bryan Ferry's tuxedoed croon. "2HB," an ode to Humphrey Bogart, looked back to the grace of vintage Hollywood, while the storming electro-glitz of "Virginia Plain" proved they could write wham-bam hits and translucent cyber-rock like "Ladytron" laid the cloud-car highway to Radiohead and beyond." - Rolling Stone`s "100 Best Debut Albums of All Time", June 2014.
