·       AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THIS PRESSING: THIS ALBUM HAS A VERY INTERESTING AND CONVOLUTED PRESSING HISTORY. ROXY MUSIC INITIALLY SIGNED UP  WITH REPRISE RECORDS IN THE UNITED STATES, AND THEIR FIRST, SELF-TITLED ALBUM (1972) WAS RELEASED ON REPRISE RECORDS ; FOR THIS, THE GROUP'S SECOND ALBUM ("FOR YOUR PLEASURE"), FOR SOME REASON KNOWN ONLY TO THEM, THE GROUP SWITCHED TO WARNER BROTHERS, REPRISE'S PARENT COMPANY. ALAS, LITERALLY JUST AS THE ALBUM WAS BEING PRESSED, TWO VERY INTERESTING THINGS OCCURRED: WARNER (AND REPRISE) MERGED WITH ATLANTIC, ELEKTRA AND ASYLUM INTO WEA (WARNER-ELEKTRA/ASYLUM-ATLANTIC) CONGLOMERATE, AND WARNER CHANGED THEIR OLD GREEN LABEL (IN USE BETWEEN 1970 AND 1973) TO THE MID-'70s 'BURBANK BOULEVARD" (PALM TREES MOTIF) LABEL, WITH NEW CORPORATE (WEA) LOGO ON THE LABEL'S EDGE. THIS TRANSITION CAUGHT "FOR YOUR PLEASURE" SMACK DAB IN THE MIDDLE OF IT; ABOUT 70% OF ALL WARNER PRESSINGS OF THIS TITLE WERE ACTUALLY WHITE LABEL PROMOS (ONE OF THE VERY FEW CASES IN THE RECORD-COLLECTING HOBBY WHERE STOCK COPIES ARE SIGNIFICANTLY RARER THAN THE PROMOS), AND ALL WHITE LABEL PROMO PRESSINGS OF THIS ALBUM HAVE THE OLD CORPORATE LOGO AND THE LAYOUT OF THE OLD (GREEN) WARNER LABEL WITH THE "SHIELD" LOGO WHICH WAS USED BEFORE THE MERGER;  AH, BUT THAT'S NOT THE ALL:. PRACTICALLY AS SOON AS THE MERGER WAS ANNOUNCED, ROXY MUSIC SWITCHED RECORDING LABELS AGAIN, THIS TIME TO ATLANTIC'S ATCO SUBSIDIARY, SO THE BULK OF THE STOCK PRESSINGS OF 'FOR YOUR PLEASURE' WAS ACTUALLY RELEASED LATER, ON ATCO LABEL (WITH A SIGNIFICANTLY SCALED-DOWN COVER), NOT ON WARNER. PROBABLY BECAUSE THE ALBUM DIDN'T SELL PARTICULARLY WELL INITIALLY, OR PERHAPS BECUASE OF THE MANAGEMENT CHAOS IN THE NEW COMBINED CORPORATE ENTITY CAUSED BY THE MERGER, ONLY A HANDFUL STOCK COPIES WERE PRESSED ON THE "NEW" WARNER LABELS WITH THE "PALM TREES" MOTIF. WE BELIEVE THAT THIS STILL SEALED COPY CONTAINS ONE SUCH RARE STOCK PRESSING

On Roxy Music's debut, the tensions between Brian Eno and Bryan Ferry propelled their music to great, unexpected heights, and for most of the group's second album, For Your Pleasure, the band equals, if not surpasses, those expectations. However, there are a handful of moments where those tensions become unbearable, as when Eno wants to move toward texture and Ferry wants to stay in more conventional rock territory; the nine-minute "The Bogus Man" captures such creative tensions perfectly, and it's easy to see why Eno left the group after the album was completed. Still, those differences result in yet another extraordinary record from Roxy Music, one that demonstrates even more clearly than the debut how avant-garde ideas can flourish in a pop setting. This is especially evident in the driving singles "Do the Strand" and "Editions of You," which pulsate with raw energy and jarring melodic structures. Roxy also illuminate the slower numbers, such as the eerie "In Every Dream Home a Heartache," with atonal, shimmering synthesizers, textures that were unexpected and innovative at the time of its release. Similarly, all of For Your Pleasure walks the tightrope between the experimental and the accessible, creating a new vocabulary for rock bands, and one that was exploited heavily in the ensuing decade.

(c)           The record is  apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!
