GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie il controllo viene effettuato sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i dischi in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati, i 33 giri su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1 mentre gli EP e i singoli a 45 giri con un Thorens TD 166 BC fornito di una testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All records in auction have been fully heard. Lps on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge, EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : un'ottima colonna sonora del compositore Inglese che si è sempre distinto per inventiva ed originalità artistica sia nelle colonne sonore jazz a cui la sua naturale inclinazione tendeva come Get Carter che in quelle con temi d'atmosfera rapportati alla trama del film come in Soldato Blu. La musica di quest'album è forse meno conosciuta a livello internazionale ma ha fascino e sonorità eccezionali. Budd ha a disposizione una grande orchestra con alcuni tra i più importanti musicisti jazz della scena Britannica: il batterista Chris Karan, il bassista e contrabbassista Jeff Clyne, Kenny Baker alla tromba, Tubby Hayes ai sassofoni e al flauto, Ronnie Scott al sax tenore oltre ovviamente a lui stesso al pianoforte. Qui è la musica jazz a fare da regina con brani di alta qualità. Cito subito il lungo brano (10'11") "The Car Chase" (a2) dalla struttura molto sofisticata ed originale. Dopo il rumore dell'accensione di un' automobile, basso e batteria supportano il sax tenore di Ronnie Scott a cui si affiancano presto altri strumenti a fiato su un andamento generale moderato. Poi la sirena della polizia e lo stridio dei pneumatici fanno scattare un progressivo aumento del ritmo con un bel assolo del sax e fiati in risalto. Il rumore sinistro dello schianto dell'auto pone fine al brano. Ancora buon jazz in "Louisiana Ferry" (a3) che scaturisce dal pianoforte, con basso e batteria a supporto e "Bayou Blues" (b1) dove il poderoso basso, la batteria e il sax suonano jazz dal ritmo veloce. Pure le altre tracce hanno, chi più chi meno, inserti di musica jazz che si combinano a sonorità di differente categoria. É il caso di "Hostage Escapes" (a4) dove l'atmosfera di tensione creata dall'orchestra è rinforzata da un'eccellente batteria, dalle vibrazioni del contrabbasso e dal flauto di Tubby Hayes. "Breakout!" (b4) bel tema d'atmosfera esaltato dalle vene jazz di pianoforte e basso. Infine, "From Sea Bed to Surface" (b6), una variazione del tema principale con bella parte iniziale dell'orchestra fino all'arrivo di tromba e percussioni che aprono la strada al pianoforte jazzeggiante di Roy Budd con l'orchestra in sottofondo.

I titoli dei dieci brani con la loro durata possono esser letti guardando il retrocopertina raffigurato nella scansione n° 2.

Notes : an excellent soundtrack of the English composer who has always stood for creativity and artistic originality both in jazz soundtracks to which his natural inclination tended such as Get Carter and in those with atmospheric themes related to film plot as in Soldier Blue. The music of this album is possibly less known internationally but it does have exceptional charm and sound. Budd has at his disposal a great orchestra with some of the most important jazz musicians in the British scene: drummer Chris Karan, bassist and double bassist Jeff Clyne, Kenny Baker on trumpet, Tubby Hayes on saxes and flute, Ronnie Scott on tenor sax in addition obviously to himself at the piano. Here is the jazz music to act as a queen with high quality pieces. I immediately mention the long track (10'11 ")" The Car Chase "(a2) from the very sophisticated and original structure. After the noise of car's ignition, bass and drums support the tenor sax of Ronnie Scott soon flanked by other wind instruments on an overall moderate development. Then the police siren and the screeching tires kick off a progressive increase in the rhythm with a beautiful solo of sax and brass instruments in prominence. Then the sinister sound of car crash ends the piece.  Good jazz again in "Louisiana Ferry" (a3) which gives off by the piano with bass and drums to support and "Bayou Blues" (b1) where the powerful bass, drums and sax perform jazz from fast rhythm. Well as the other tracks have, some more than others, jazz insertions which combine with sonorities of different category. This is the case of "Hostage Escapes" (a4) where the tense atmosphere created by the orchestra is reinforced by excellent drums, by the the bass vibrations and the flute of Tubby Hayes. "Breakout!" (b4), a nice atmospheric theme stressed by the jazz nuances of piano and bass. Finally "From Sea Bed to Surface" (b6), a variation of the main theme with lovely initial part of the orchestra until the arrival of trumpet and percussion which open the way to the jazzy piano by Roy Budd with the orchestra in the background.
