Roy Harper 'Stormcock' 1971 UK original vinyl album on the Harvest green label No EMI box, catalogue number SHVL 789 (stereo)
The numbers and letters imprinted in the vinyl 'run-off' area are:- Side 1: SHVL 789 A-4U 1 G Side 2: SHVL 789 B-4U 1 M
This is a heavy vinyl and it has a noticeable edge wave when viewed on a moving turntable, but it tracks and plays perfectly well on my deck with the standard settings. When examined under a bright light I can see a small quantity of light surface scratches on both sides - most are caused by bag movement, but there are also a few scuffs and superficial stylus scratches. I cannot feel any of them with light fingertip touch. The record does not seem to have been played a lot and it retains a good glossy shine, it plays very clearly with just a little underlying surface sound in the quieter sections and a few random light ticks, but nothing distracting or even very noticeable. In summary there is nothing which spoils the enjoyment of this great record, there are no sticks, no skips, no jumps and very little lessening of the sound quality.
The track titles can be seen on the label photographs. The labels have some light spindle lines, no writing, no damage.
The cover is a gatefold type which is textured on all of the outer surfaces, it does not have any coating or laminate. The front surface has about ten thumb creases near the open edge, a small brown stain on Roy's forehead above his left eye and a few tiny creases next to the spine. The back surface also has some creases next to the spine, slight rub wear tracing the top and bottom edge of the record and a small number 445, barely visible, handwritten in the top left corner. The tips of the edges, seams and corners all have rub wear. The centre piece is excellent, just some slight rub wear across the top and bottom borders.
The spine is in very good order, just rub wear on the bottom corner and a series of small scuffs along it's length - one of the scuffs interferes slightly with the 'k' of 'Stormcock', but other than that it is completely and clearly readable.
The inner sleeve is the Harvest company original, apart from the fact that it no longer has it's poly-liner, it is in very nice condition with no seam splits, no tears, no damage - there is a small number 445 neatly handwritten in the top left corner.
PLEASE NOTE THIS ALBUM DOES NOT INCLUDE THE SINGLE SHEET LYRIC INSERT WHICH ACCOMPANIED SOME OF THESE EARLIEST ORIGINALS, UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS LOST SOME TIME AGO.
I have checked the Record Collector grading system and I would say that the gatefold is 'very good' to 'very good+', the record is visually 'very good+' and the audio is 'excellent' (please be aware that I am not making any allowance for the 'warp' in these grading because it has no affect on my turntable and system - it seems mainly visible on the outer edge and diminishes quickly as the stylus moves in).
I have described this as carefully and honestly as I can, but it is a no return item so please bid accordingly.
It will be packed in a strong record mailing box with two pieces of card inside for further protection.
