Twelve songs here, a third of which are all time classics, which isn't a bad  ratio when you think about it. The filler material I have a slight problem with when compared to the debut, this LP seems slightly less varied due to a shortage of up-tempo numbers. There's only two actually I can immediately think of, 'Dance', which is a standard rock n roll type number and 'Loneliness', a weird mix of down lyrics uneasily wedded to a happy tune. What else? 'Summersong' is quite lovely, but 'Crying' is an album where the  difference between the good and merely wonderfully performed is quite marked. The good? Hardly needs saying. 'Crying', with that wonderful high section right at the end. 'Lana', an uptempo number, should have mentioned it just now. 'Love Hurts' is beautiful with an utterly brilliant vocal full of emotion. Good, very effective musical arrangement. Finally? One of the all-time, all-time greats. Indeed, 'Crying' and 'Running Scared' which bookend the LP, particularly highlight Roy in all his magnificent falsetto glory. A vocal that sounds tearful, or sounds scared. It sounds like he's on the brink of collapse, yet does so whilst hitting these glorious notes and sounds. Good stuff, Mr O, good stuff.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG++, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions (probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years) ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The record has a "deep groove" (an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings).

(d)          Stereo  pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its mono  counterpart. The mix is more graphic, the sound resolution more precise, and the channel separation (which does not exist on mono version) adds a whole new dimension to the music. Also, the stereo mixes are (by definition) somewhat different than on the mono version. We estimate that mono copies of this album outnumber stereo copies  by a ratio of at least 10:1.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (THIS IS THE ORIGINAL GLOSSY, LIGHTLY LAMINATED COVER)

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+ (VG+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        A visible water stain  (VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY)  affects about one third of the back panel; there is no structural damage to the cover, and both cardboard base and paper slick are intact, however, the stain is visible and has caused a slight warp in the affected area.

-         Cover has a partially split top seam (between 4 and 6 inches  / 10 to 15 centimeters); This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine

-         Cover has some fraying/wear along the upper seam

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the spine (nothing significant)

-         Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease)  in one of the corners.

-         Cover shows some yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-         Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
