Description
Up for auction is a nice original pressing of the Rush album Moving Pictures, originally released in the U.S. on Mercury Records (SRM-1-4013) in 1981:
-Guaranteed original pressing, NOT reissue -Original illustrated labels -MASTERDISK stamp in deadwax -RL Robert Ludwig mastering etched in deadwax -Original inner sleeve w/ lyrics -NO UPC/bar code on cover -NOT common record club pressing -Vinyl comes in poly audiophile protective inner sleeve
Note: These original pressings have the coveted "RL" markings in the deadwax, indicating a Robert Ludwig mastering, which are sought after by audiophiles for their superior sound quality. Most copies on eBay do NOT have this RL designation.
Also, these original covers were notoriously thin and flimsy, and thus very prone to wear--most covers are thrashed and heavily worn, but this one is still nicely preserved.
Condition: Cover looks nice with light general wear. No ring wear on front but shows creasing along edges, and wear to corners (see photos). Seams are strong, no splits, with some edge wear. Backs show light rub and creasing along edges. Still nice. Grade: Very Good Plus (VG+)
Vinyl looks very nice, still has its original shine. No obvious scratches or scuffs, but under a strong light some faint superficial hairlines show up from taking the vinyl out of cardboard inner sleeve a few times--unfortunately these original cardboard inner sleeves cause unavoidable signs on the record, but it's not serious, very faint. Labels look clean, no wear around spindle holes. Looks like the record has been played a couple times but handled with care.
Spot Play Tested:
Has some faint surface/background pressing noise on the run-in grooves but once the music kicks in, it fades away, and the music is clear and enjoyable, no significant distortions. Nice play copy! Grade: Excellent (EX)

How I Pack Your Records:
I remove the records with inner sleeves from the covers prior to packing. I sandwich the record between two pieces of cardboard for padding and protection. I also reinforce the corners of the shipping box to protect the corners of the record jacket from damage.
