Canadian rock superstars Rush released studio album number eleven, 'Power Windows', in 1985. It was the first to use producer Peter Collins, and Collins went on to produce many more Rush albums through the years. Rush had pretty much gotten to the point where they did what they wanted to. That doesn't mean the music was sloppy or anything. In fact, it was quite the opposite! 'Power Windows' is a great album, full of amazing lyrics, fantastic drumming, synths that complimented, but not dominated, Geddy's always interesting vocals, and guitar work that could peel the paint off the walls!
The band released that hard rock masterpiece, on a special, limited edition picture disc, in the UK. Many copies have popped up here and there, and most hardcore fans already have this. But some of you are just starting out with Rush picture disc collecting, and if you are, then this is a good place to start! It's the artwork from the cover of the original mid 80s release. It comes in its own original die-cut sleeve, that's still intact. The sleeve is starting to show its age a bit, and is shelf worn in spots. But no rips or tears, or handwriting anywhere on it! The vinyl itself has a few light surface marks, but nothing too bad, and hardly noticable! I can't vouch for the sound quality of the picture disc, as I never play specialty vinyl such as pic discs or colored records.
And you KNOW I'm not done yet, right? I'll also add a 7" picture sleeve (standard black vinyl) 45 of the first single and hit record from 'Power Windows' called "The Big Money"! The picture sleeve looks amazing for something that's THIRTY SEVEN years old! No rips or tears, folds, or handwriting anywhere on it! And it was released BEFORE the album came out! That's what they did in this days...they knew what the first single was going to be, so they printed up copies of it, with artwork that usually correlated to the album cover, and released it to drum up interest in the forthcoming new record. In this case, they used the back cover artwork. The vinyl looks great, and is shiny and clean. It may have never been played. I usually don't spin 45s, as they are so fragile.
Rush fans love their collectible merchandise. I know this, because I'm a Rush fan myself! I feel that they will go down in history as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. We're all still trying to get past the death of Neil Peart. (RIP Neil. You were one of the greatest drummers in the world, as well as one of the most amazing lyricists that ever wrote songs. You are truly missed...)
