ROBERT CURTIS SMITH LP CLARKSDALE BLUES: THE BLUES OF ROBERT CURTIS SMITH (Prestige/Bluesville Records BV 1064). Released 1962.

"RVG" is stamped in the dead wax to note that this original mono pressing was mastered by a Mr. Rudy Van Gelder.  Label is the vintage silver & blue Prestige/Bluesville label. Robert Curtis Smith comes from the Yazoo basin in the Mississippi Delta. Best as I can tell, this 1962 session organized by Kenneth S. Goldstein & Chris Strachwitz, laid down when Robert was 31 years old, was all that he ever recorded. Nice liner notes by Mack McCormick. Beautiful rich sepia-tone photo by Chris Strachwitz. Cover design by Don Schlitten.

Visible speckling along a one-inch band of the front edge. But the rest of the front looks nice. On the other side, a one-inch strip of the cover has been neatly excised. So the record sticks out from the back about an inch. This little missing strip of the back cover is not visible from the front. Beautiful surface sheen. Thick, well-made platter with rounded edge is constructed of high-quality materials. (Etched Matrix number: "BVLP-1064 A/B   RVG").

  COVER - VG-

No seam splits or stains, but a noticeable one-inch band along the open edge has been neatly cut off from the back cover. There is a one-inch band of speckling along the front open edge, running up & down. Otherwise, the cover looks quite nice: No puncture holes, tears, color fading or cut-out marks. Very very little ring wear. The glossy spine looks quite nice & is all readable. The remarkable sepia-toned cover photo retains great color & sheen. Small amount of corner banging. Nice flat cover free of bends, bows, waves or ripples. Label looks great with no marks, writing, cuts or stickers. Precisely-cut hole with some faint transparent spindle scuffs.

  DISC - NM

Free of scratches. Just a scant few very light & barely-noticeable flecks. Free of warping or residue on the disc or dead wax. Excellent surface sheen on the thick, high-quality platter. No chipping or cracks. Album has been stored upright in a climate-controlled environment.
