EXTREMELY RARE PuNk 45 ! ! !
B&C records / UK issue / published 1977
PETE NEWNHAM ~ ( a.k.a. ~ ' T.H.E. ' )
[a] “Rudi” ~ [b] “ OUTSIDE MY WINDOW”
cat no. BCS 0011
This is Pete's Newnham's extremely rare Punk Rock 45 on B&C from 1977.
Info about this 45 has been gathered from memory and other various sources...
On this 45 Pete Newnham teamed up with the late Paul Hammond drummer of Atomic Rooster and bass guitarist Mike Marchant of 3rd Ear Band both of who backed Pete to pump out these two power house punkers. The resultant three piece Punk outfit was named ‘T.H.E.’ and this their only single is on the B&C label. But instead of releasing this 45 under the band’s real name of T.H.E. for some reason or other , the B&C label decided in their wisdom to release it under the title of Pete Newnham and not the bands name.
Apparently 1000 were pressed which seemed to be common around that time unless the record ‘hitthe big time’ but in the case of this 45 it was destined to be otherwise,a s apparently had no distribution / promtotion whatsover was given to this record, cosequently it therefore sank with out a trace into complete oblivion.
Rumours abound that now only about 100 copies exist of this actual 45. But judging by the way that many of the old punks I used to know used to frisbee about anything they could lay their hands at parties ~ I would say that this estimate is probably a wild exageration of the actual amount that now survive in any form of playable condition.
As for the other 900 one would assume that they were ‘dinked’ and then re-pressed into some or other 45s / LPs back at the respective pressing plant...
The vinyl on this 45 is full gloss EX/EX nice and flat ! ! ! ... good quality heavyweight pressing & the audio reproduction is stunning !.. I’ve have had this record kicking about in my boxes for years, and seeing as Atomic Rooster were also kicking around this area of SW London as well, I suppose that this is why this 45 has turned up round here... I love to know what other songs this lot created (if any) as judging by the standard of the B-side, they would no doubt be some of the greatest of their era ~ Shame falls on the distributors ! ! !
The A-side ~ “Rudi” is about film icon Rudolph Valentino, and supposedly inspired by the Ken Russel film ‘Valentino’... Valentino had a unique cult status among both young men and women and was the first of the early cult Hollywood silver screen stars to 'die before his time', an event which supposedly had some young men & young many women throwing themselves to their doom from window ledges, bridges and so on... Good track.
The B-side "Outside My Window" ~ is my personal favourite of these two tracks. It kicks straight in from the word go as a tight & full bore punker with pounding drums, fast and heavy bass work and riff led punk guitar licks, before opening with the the immortal and classic lines ~
“I don’t need you ‘coz you cause me pain,
don’t care if I never see you again,
I need you like I need a pound of smack,
I need you baby like a knife in the back...”
The combined musical heritage of the band members make this 45 a cut way above the standard one chord DIY fodder of the time, and to gain the full benefit of smashing up the furniture whilst denting holes in the ceiling with your head at the same time... it’s probably best if this side cranked up to a really loud and anti-social volume level.
As stated earlier Vinyl is a really good solid heavweight pressing graded EX / EX full gloss – nice and flat.
The paper label tranfers are the typical 'rubbish of the period' and although were probably meant to be gloss, this hasn't quite worked and they have pressed over the standard fodder of an uneven and lumpy centre to the disc...
Labels graded as follows -
A side VG+ ... the white patch on the A side centre is where the label tranfer hasn't been applied properly and is NOT wear or damage.
B side close to Ex ... gradings on both labels are low here due to the quality of the label transfers.
see pictures
Very rare punk 45 ! ...and as per usual ~ VERY LOW START & NO RESERVE ON THIS ITEM !
BID WITH CONFIDENCE ~ I DO NOT END AUCTIONS EARLY !
<~~~~~~~~~~~~~<<<< @ >>>>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~>
I have many 1000's of 45's & E.P's and LP's ~ I am currently downsizing my extensive DJ collection due to space and also to 'share out' items that I no longer use or have not played for a long time...
I have been collecting and DJ-ing vinyl for over 30 years... ~ I have many years experience in collecting all sorts of records both for my own listening pleasure, and also to DJ as well...
Unless listed as 'unplayed' ~ All my records are tested for sound quality via a 'Project' record deck or 'Thorens TD150' record decks, matched 'Quad 33/303' power amp / pre amp, and 'BBC studio reference quality' 'Rodgers Studio 1A' monitors, before being offered for sale...
I do not 'skim'... nor do I use other chemicals or polishes to clean my records...
I truly care about my customers... I grade all records conservatively... I only use top quality mailers and stiffeners... I have no interest in inflating the stated quality of either the vinyl or audio reproduction, and wish all of my customers to enjoy top-quality records.
Please check my 100% positive feedback...
kind regards ~ snogsdogs

There will be a compilation 'Bored Teenagers # 5' on Detour Records, to be released in September, on vinyl and c/d, which will include the two tracks from this single Rudi / Outside my Window plus the old Stones song 'Play with Fire' and an original 'Johnny the Snark'.
Not much info yet as to dates, launch party etc. though Mike Marchant and Pete, plus drummer, are hoping to do a 30 min set so should be good !

hi xxxx xxxx, (etc.)
Thankyou for your interest and for your offers, but ~ As is clearly stated in all listings for vinyl auctions, Snogsdogs does not not ever withdraw any items from ebay auction once thay have been listed. This is because Snogsdogs believes that such practice is very disappointing and unfair to other bidders, who are either already bidding on an item / or watching an item with a view to possibly placing a bid before the end of the auction.
If on the rare occasion that an item is withdrawn, it will be due to a specific problem with the actual item or with the listing itself, that needs to be adequately resolved, before the item can then be relisted on ebay.
kind regards
snogsdogs.
