Condition VINYL: VG+. Superbly clean on visual inspection. No obvious marks, scuffs or hairlines anywhere. Played just pre-listing and sounds great. Some very mild surface noise at run-ins and during gaps/pauses but the actors’ vocals sound bright throughout. An enjoyable listening experience. OUTER SLEEVE (COVER): NM. Colours are unfaded and clean. Superb sleeve still in original shrinkwrap though exposed at aperture end. Spine, edges and spine corners protected since new. No obvious marks or defects and aperture plus corners are undamaged. Fantastic example.
INNER SLEEVE: VG+. Original. Off-white yellowed paper with centre hole. Slight rippling but clean and intact.

What can be better than ‘A Christmas Carol’, with all the voices, the bells, the music, the laughter and ghostly shivers recorded imaginatively and faithfully? Sir Ralph Richardson makes a splendid crotchety old snuffler of a Scrooge, whose terrifying encounter with the spirits is zestfully recounted by Paul Scofield, playing Mr Dickens himself to the hilt.

The entire production has been assembled solely as a recording, not as a radio program or a play. This is Dickens’ world evoked for the listener’s sheer delight in fine characterisations, sounds as large as life, and merry voices in music. We recommend it heartily for any family with the Scrooge problem. If the problem is not saying “God bless us, everyone” by the end of this recording, we'll eat our Christmas tree!

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
