Rammellzee vs. K-Rob – Beat Bop 12" TARTOWN TT001 ORIGINAL 45rpm 12" single from 1984, still in shrink. Rap 12" Holy Grail with art and production by Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Well, here we have a real piece of Rap / NYC art scene history! This is 100% an original press at 45 rpm from a NYC DJ's collection (see last photo) plays at 45, still in the shrink (barely!).
Let me first give you some background on my grading and how important and accurate a conservative grade is. I've been buying and selling records for 20 years, and have worked in record stores just about as long. I have a collection of 20k records that have all been cleaned with a VPI, archived and stored with the highest quality materials and painstakingly graded. I do not mess with scratched or unacceptable records. I believe it is better to always grade a record visually, MORE conservatively than it actually is. I would rather tell the buyer the record is a NM- and they get a NM record, rather than say it is NM when the buyer perceives it an NM-.
With that in mind, I MUST grade this record VISUALLY a VG-, that means there are visible signs of storage wear (more than play wear) that might affect the SOUND of the record. As you can see (mostly) in pictures 8,9,&10. We have medium scuffing, with a few minor marks on the A side. The B side is another issue, easily a VG+ with only light scuffing. Record is nearly perfectly flat, but there is a 1 or 2 degree oscillation in the vertical, no horizontal movement at all.
HOWEVER, Grading this after playback is entirely different grade. IT PLAYS AWESOME!!! Such a great sounding record, and the 45rpm really makes it sound warm and huge! if I was blind and had to grade just on the sound it's easily a VG++ on the A side (only 2-3 pops the whole side), and the B-Side is easily NM-/VG+++ with barely any noise at all. REALLY, A FINE COPY!
About the cover, all seams and edges are intact, jacket has a 4" bend on the lower right hand corner, shrink is torn and about 45% on, but it's there.
I've cleaned this on my VPI twice, and will be shipped in the most secure shipping you've ever seen for a record.
