Randy Rice 2-LP No'd PRIVATE Loner/Downer/Psych Folk

Up for grabs is this incredibly rare, private pressing, vinyl double album by Randy Rice. Entitled To Anyone Who's Ever Laughed At Someone Else, this is a self-financed US-only LP of which only 550 copies were ever pressed. It was recorded in and around Chicago in 1974 and is housed in a heavy duty sleeve which is individually hand-numbered in pencil on the front (bottom middle); this copy is number 191 of only 550. It comes complete with 2 inserts, one printed on white paper which contains a track listing and a brief note from Randy Rice, the other printed on textured light blue paper which contains lyrics to one of the tracks. I have only ever seen one other copy of this LP offered for sale in over 20 years of trading.

The following review of the album is taken from the excellent Acid Archives website who also compiled a great book on acid / psychedelic folk rarities (both website and book are well worth checking out for reviews of similar albums):

Very obscure double LP from talented but troubled hippie-folk/singer-songwriter guy with a lot of interesting aspects. You needn't look hard to see the demons in the guy's skull, as pleasant Lennonesque songs open doors into hateful lyrics knocking rednecks, feminists, vicious mothers, America, religion, his phony friends, and pretty much everything else until the meaning of "loner" folk shines bright and clear like an aura around his head. Some songs bring in a full rock band with howling feedback guitars a la One St Stephen, and there are also spoken bits with bad coffeehouse jokes, interviews with people on the street, and diary confessions probably from his mom's basement. References to Watergate and Vietnam send you right back to 1974. As far as loner/downer 2LP sets go, this is surprisingly strong and varied, with a good soaring voice, atmospheric recording and inventive arrangements and playing, mostly guitar, some with piano. References to babies and parenthood provide an unusual documentary feel. As a peek into an unknown guy's reality this is rather successful and clearly above average for the genre."

This is an original US issue double album on Randy Rice's own private (un-named) label. The catalogue number is RR-1 and the date of issue is 1974.

Condition

The vinyl is in Excellent condition on Sides 1, 3 and 4. Side 2 is in Excellent Minus condition having just a couple of slight non-audible marks.

The labels are in Excellent condition, clean and bright with clear, perfect printing and only the very lightest of spindle marks.

The cover is in Excellent condition. The spine is complete with no damage (there is no printing on the spine).

The inserts are in Very Good condition both having a bit of creasing in the bottom left corner. There is also a tiny edge tear on the blue insert (see pics).

All my vinyl records are strictly graded according to Record Collector magazine's grading system. Please check my GRADING GUIDE to see a description of each grade. If any item has any writing, stickers, sticker marks, tears etc these will always be mentioned along with the grading.
