Description
Martin Records 12-inch 33 RPM LP # 7-7808 is "What the World Needs Now Is Love" by Kent Kilbourne, also titled on the cover as: "Martin Records Presents Kent Kilbourne." It is undated and so rare that - at the time of listing - I haven't found any other copies of it anywhere on the internet.
It appears to be signed by the singer on the front, and the back is totally blank apart from the record company's handwritten address (in Wilmore, Kentucky) at the lower right corner, which looks to be in the same handwriting as the signature on the front. The track list, taken from the labels, is:
Side 1: Georgie Girl, Come Go with Me, Ol' Blue, Coal Tattoo, It's Over, What the World Needs Now.
Side 2: Cloudy, You Know My Name, Mighty Big Ways, Remember the Alamo, I Wish You Love, I Know Where I'm Going.
The style is mainly traditional 1960's folk, but a few of the songs have a religious theme or undertone. Biographically, I believe Kent Kilbourne grew up partly in Kentucky and partly in the Far East (where his parents were Methodist missionaries), and he graduated in 1972 from the Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, after which he became a Pastor in the United Methodist Church, most recently serving in Aledo, Texas. He is now retired and living in Fort Worth.
Musically, my online search for other albums by Kent Kilbourne revealed only two that were issued under his name alone and a few group efforts on which he gets credits for guitar and/or vocals. The two under his own name were "If You Lose, You Win" and "Songs from My Room", both released by Martin Records, and the latter apparently containing at least some of the tracks on "What the World Needs Now."

Kent is also credited as guitarist on the Martin Records album "Ally Ally Ox in Free" by Ed Kilbourne (Kent's brother, perhaps?), who has remained more active as a professional musician, and is still touring and making CD's. He sometimes performs under the stage name "The Grateful Ed", describing himself as a "singer, story teller, humorist and folk theologian."
The record looks to be in about VG+ condition, still nice and shiny, but with some visible light surface scuffs and scratches. It plays through perfectly fine on my old Bang and Olufsen turntable, with some light background noise throughout, but no skips or jumps. Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering technology and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well it will play on your equipment.
The cover is in somewhat compromised condition, with the top seam almost totally slit and the bottom seam starting to slit at the open end. Otherwise, it has just light surface and edge wear, and it comes with a plain white inner sleeve.
