Rare Rockabilly Surf Garage 45 RPM Record- THE WEBS (Bobby Goldsboro)- HEART 333

We are dispersing a fresh-to-market group of untouched estate 1950's & 1960's Era 45 RPM records at this time.  Found in the back closet of a local Wilmington estate, these records were discovered tucked into a little handled carrying case and still inside their original 1950's paper sleeves. 

As a group, they appear to have been very well cared for and we would describe the general visual condition as played only a few times, properly stored and otherwise essentially undisturbed. 

This auction is for the Ultra Rare 1961 Rockabilly/ Surf/ Garage 45 RPM Record by BOBBY & THE WEBS (with Bobby Goldsboro) *Lost (subt. Cricket In My Ear) / Blue Skies* on the never seen Birmingham, Alabama "HEART" record label (#333).  This is the original pressing issued while The Webs attended college at Auburn University and Goldsboro's first and only recording for Heart record label!! 

In 1961, Bobby & the band were all enrolled there and continued to practice at Auburn and play for fraternity and sorority dances and other gigs on campus.  The "Lite" pressing was issued a few years later. 

The Webs were a group from Dothan, Ala who formed while at high school and continued playing through college. Bobby Goldsboro was a member of this band for only a few years and this record for Heart is the first he ever cut.

Here is an interesting bit of info about Goldsboro's early years with the Webs by Tom Pollard of Heart Records:

I first met "The Webs" in 1961 in Birmingham, Alabama. They came to Heart Recording Studio to "make some records". The engineer at the studio, (which was on the second floor over a blood bank) was named Ed Boutwell and Bobby Goldsboro acted as his own A&R man. We cut several sides and The Webs went back to college at Auburn University. They were all enrolled there and continued to practice there and play for Fraternity and Sorority dances and other gigs on campus. 

The recordings were good but needed some more polish so some time later, Ed Boutwell and I picked up the band and their instruments and brought them to Birmingham in Ed's car as they didn't have money for the trip. Neither did we or the band have money for lodging so the guys just stayed at the Studio, sleeping on the sofa and the floor. The band really cut some good songs on these sessions and a vocal quartet was brought in to add some backup.

We had the quartet under contract too, so The Webs played for the Q-tet and the Q-tet sang for The Webs. Some sessions lasted all night and they slept most of the next day. There was a small cafeteria across the street and we used to go there to eat while Bobby did his tree frog noise, (which sounded like a cricket) the waiters would go crazy looking for the "bug".

Visual condition of both sides appears Stone Near Mint with no marks or scratches I could see!!

The records in my own collection as a kid were more trashed after one week. I do not believe you will find a cleaner copy. 

With near perfect labels, both sides are exceedingly well preserved as the numerous good photos show. It will be awhile indeed before you see this record in this condition offered again!!

 I carried these record over to the local record store and had them all cleaned on a Nitty Gritty cleaner.  The store manager was impressed with the general condition of these sides and said that as a group the condition ranged from VG+ to NM overall.
