Here's a very rare and odd release by Mel Turner.
Mel Turner (real name James "Jimmy" Ross) was born in Trinidad/Tobago on the 10th of april 1936. While working as a cook in the Marine Mel started singing, getting singing jobs in different towns. He was soon stranded in Belgium where he befriended Bobbejaan Schoepen a Flemish pioneer in Belgian pop music, vaudeville, and European country music. Schoepen was a versatile entertainer, entrepreneur, singer-songwriter, guitarist, comedian, actor, and professional whistler, as well as the founder and former director of the amusement park "Bobbejaanland". Mel for years sang in Bobbejaaland. The amusement park is still open to this day.
This record, a tribute to Martin Luther King was recorded for Schoepen's "Bobbejaan Records" the only Soul record on the label. "They Killed The King"  became a favorite dancer in the Belgian Popcorn scene.   Mel died in Belgium on March 21st of 2000.
Note: when we acquired this 45 recently we were surprised to find it was autographed on the record's label by Mel for a belgian girl named Herma or Helma.
