Rare Earth Limited Edition.
In my earliest days in the music business —1969— I was promoting albums from a number of labels, including the (then) new Motown imprint, Rare Earth Records.
A decade after the launch of Motown Records, Motown decided to create a label built primarily for pop/white artists. Rare Earth Records was established by Motown in 1969 to focus on blues-oriented and progressive rock music. One of the first albums to be released was “Get Ready” by the band Rare Earth. Here is a copy of that original album release, and here are a few details.
- TITLE: “Get Ready”
- PACKAGE: A Special 12” cardboard sleeve, rounded at the top.
- DISC: 12” black vinyl disc.
- INNER SLEEVE: There is no inner sleeve. The label initially opted to release this album with a special cardboard jacket, rounded at the top. The inside of the special rounded jacket was created with its own clear plastic inner sleeve (still there).
- SELECTION NUMBER: RS-507
- PERFORMERS: The main personnel in the group included
- Gil Bridges, saxophone, flute, vocals;
- Peter Hoorelbeke (aka Peter Rivera), lead vocals, drums;
- John Parrish (aka John Persh), bass guitar, trombone, vocals;
- Rod Richards (born Rod Cox), guitar, vocals;
- Kenny James (born Ken Folcik), keyboards.
- Edward "Eddie" Guzman (congas and assorted percussive instruments).
- Side One Tracks include

- “Tobacco Road”, 7:11
- “Feelin’ Alright”, 5:03
- “In Bed”, 3:01
- Train to Nowhere”, 3:23
- Side Two had one track:
- “Get Ready”, 21.30 [NOTE: “Get Ready” is the entire Side 2 of the album.]
- NOTE: This album has not been played by me after packing it away more than 50 years ago. Sound/Playback quality is believed to be excellent but I have not played either side of the disc prior to this eBay listing as I no longer have a turntable.
