Description

Very hard to find Esoteric Sound Re-Equalizer in beautiful special order walnut case.

Prior to 1954 when the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) set a single recording playback standard, each label recorded to it's own turnover and rolloff specs.  Sun, London, Decca, Folkways, RCA, Edison, Pathe, BBC and Western Electric transcriptions etc. all recorded their material differently.  When played on modern stereo equipment all these recordings are played back at the same RIAA standard.

This Re-Equalizer allows you to adjust rolloff and turnover to hear the music as it was ORIGINALLY recorded, not standardized.

Blues, Folk, Jazz, Classical, Rockabilly, Spoken Word, WW II transcriptions, Big Band, Swing, Gospel.
Imagine hearing performances by Howlin' Wolf, Louis Armstrong, James Cotton, Edith Piaf, Gershwin, Leadbelly, Caruso, Foreign broadcasts etc to the original specs they were recorded at.

There is a free pdf manual on line that explains how to use this piece of equipment and gives settings for individual recording labels.  Example:  Decca 78's Set Turnover to 400 Rolloff to 10 etc.

I got this out of a large audiophile estate with all kinds of interesting modern and tube equipment.

Please note:  I have no 78 records to verify if this piece of equipment works.  In addition, when you plug it in there is no light bulb or on/off switch to indicate if it's on.
For these reasons I am selling AS IS with No Returns so please bid accordingly.  Esoteric does sell these on line for $349 plus an additional $110 for the walnut case.

Please check out my other auction for a fantastic Radio Craftsmen Mono Tube Power Amp.  From the same estate.
