Description
A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra is a 1957 Capitol Records release.
This LP was Sinatra's first full-length Christmas album. It features an orchestra conducted by Gordon Jenkins.
Sinatra is in classic form. He indulges in coolly strolling phrasing during “Jingle Bells,” and he puts some sly humor into “Mistletoe and Holly.” Elsewhere, Sinatra trains his vibrato on swing-free readings of carols; his stirring performance on “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” also thrills.
From the J-I-N-G-L-E of the first track, to the iconic opening phrase, “Frosted window panes...” this holiday music absolutely qualifies as classic pop in any era. It proves that in the right context, nostalgia only gets better with age.
A Jolly Christmas stands above other Sinatra Christmas collections because all of the tunes seamlessly reflect the Christmas spirit. Those who still long for a good mix of both sacred and secular Christmas tunes will continue to spin this disc every year.
