Description
Up for auction this week is a rare, vintage, near-mint, truly gorgeous 45rpm 4-side by Elvis entitled simply "Elvis Presley," RCA EPB-1254. The liner notes say it all -- "Elvis Presley, RCA Victor's new recording artist, has zoomed into big-time entertainment practivally overnight."
UPDATE: I don't deal records, but since I've gotten several questions about this item, I have done more research into it. I don't know how much stock to put into the Official Price Guide to Records by Jerry Osborne (16th Ed., published 2002), but the listing for this release is noted on page 520 (Black label, dog on top. Two EP set) in the price range of $325-$425.
This beautifully packaged, historically important RCA release was part of my late uncle's estate. He was a sales rep for RCA who worked the Southeast from about 1953-73. This is one of the earliest RCA packages for Elvis, and both the music he created here and the graphics of this particular package have continued to have an impact on the recording industry (and the way music has been packaged) ever since.
Both the exterior packaging and the interior vinyl are in excellent condition, with no ringwear or evident scuffing to the cover. I haven't played the vinyl, and actually have had to handle it more in listing and re-scanning it than I would like.
The song list includes (Side 1) Blue Suede Shoes/I'm Counting on You, (Side 2) I Got a Woman/One-Sided Love Affair, (Side 3) Tutti Frutti/Tryin' to Get to You, and (Side 4) I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Cry/I'll Never Let You Go.
