Description
Orion 78282, perhaps the hardest-to-find of the coveted Super Discs listed in The Absolute Sound in the days when HP ran it and it truly was the journal of high end audio. A fabulous recording, lots of dynamic range, and immediacy in spades. David McVey plays Julius Reubke’s Sonata on the 94th Psalm on the now-vanished Möller-Rosales organ of Pomona College’s “Little Bridges” auditorium. (The auditorium now has a striking new Fisk organ, but the Manual Rosales rebuild of the old Möller, a small four-manual of about 60 ranks, was at least on record an extraordinarily effective organ.) McVey also plays Reubke’s short Trio, and the symphonic chorale, “Jesu, geh voran (Seelenbräutigam),” from Sigfrid Karg-Elert’s op. 65, perhaps the high point of that collection. The performances are terrific, and the recording is right up there with the Mercury recordings of Dupré at St. Thomas Church, New York, as one of the best ever made of an organ – in this case in a relatively small auditorium rather than a large church. An excellent copy of an elusive record: jacket NM, record NM- (two ticks at the beginning of the Reubke Sonata, a bit of thunking at the start of side two, otherwise dead silent – and stunning).
Record will be shipped by media mail or priority mail for US shipments as buyer prefers, by first class international (air) for foreign shipments. Multiple orders gladly combined for reduced shipping cost – request total at conclusion of auctions. PayPal except for any items picked up by buyer.
