Description
You are bidding on one of the rarest blues LP records in existance! This is an original microgroove 1960 U.S. pressing on the orange Excello Label, LP-8000 from the Nashboro Record Co., Nashville, Tennessee. The record looks and play grades a NM- condition. Looks only to have been played a few times. Still retains full original shine and lustre. Only slight spindle hole wear on one side and a couple very light superficial marks that are inaudible prevent a NM rating. The jacket is in VG++ condition. Light ring wear, a handwritten letter S and light yellowing on back prevent a higher grading. Nice tight seams without splits, no tape or stickers. An absolutely gorgeous copy of this highly sought after blues record! Slim's sombre and deep blues singing, coupled with his outstanding electric guitar playing and Schoolboy Cleve's harmonica playing on this album are considered by many to be the best examples in the blues genre! I agree...this album is absolutely incredible!

Lightnin' Slim was born Otis Hicks in St. Louis, Missouri on March 13, 1913. After 13 years of living on a farm outside of the city, the Hicks family moved to Louisiana, first settling in St. Francisville. Young Otis took to the guitar early, first shown the rudiments by his father, then later by his older brother, Layfield. Lighnin' dubbed the "King of Lousiana Swamp Blues" traveled the south with brother-in-law Slim Harpo in the 50's and 60's playing the blues circuit. Combining the country ambience of a Lightnin' Hopkins with the plodding insistence of a Muddy Waters, Slim's music remains uniquely his own. His familiar vocal exhortation to "blow your harmonica, son" to harmonica player Schoolboy Cleve has become one of the truly great, mournful all-time catchphrases of the blues. He was part of the historical American Blues Legends tour that traveled to Europe in the 60's.
