Description
Opera Tenor Theodore Kittay on a c. 1918 Lyric 78 RPM Record:
Brindisi (Drinking Song)
Unknown
Both numbers are from the early-century opera, Cavalleria Rusticana. Theodore Kittay is a long-forgotten opera tenor, a prolific performer for his time, but just didn't have the staying power as Caruso and other tenors of his time.
These beautifully-illustrated Lyric records are really rare, and to find an opera performance on one is nearly impossible. This is a nice piece of recorded history of a talented opera tenor largely forgotten by modern opera aficionados.
Narrowing down a date is difficult on Lyric records, but they made records from about 1918 to the mid 1920s.
The label is clear on the Brindisi side, but the title has been scratched out on the other side. It is unknown what song is on that side.
Both sides play with moderate surface noise, but the singing is loud and clear. It's actually louder on the scratched-out side.
The record is graded at VG+ for wear and scratching. No cracks or chips.
