The Story Behind
"The Day The Chiefs Became THE SUPER CHIEFS"
In 1960 a loyal band of professional football enthusiasts from Dallas, Texas rallied behind Lamar Hunt as he announced the formation of the Dallas Texans and the American Football League.

The true loyalists were admittedly small in numbers but strong in enthusiasm. They were treated to some of the wildest and highest scoring football games of the decade. There were the bombs of "Cotton" Davidson, the long and exciting runs of Abner Haynes, and the miraculous catches of Chris Burford. The games were played to audiences as small as 4,000 and as large as 25,000, but never enough to make the franchise profitable. When the Texans were on the road the NFL Cowboys were playing to similar naked crowds in the Cotton Bowl. Neither franchise could make a significant breakthru toward profitability.

In Kansas City, Missouri there were hungry loyal football fans waiting for the opporuntiy to adopt as their own a professional football franchise. While Lamar Hunt had a great love for his native home in Dallas, he wwas also a business man, and in Kansas City he could sense a sincerity and love and box-office support awaiting his Texans if he chose to move the franchise. His final decision to make the move was greeted in Dallas with mixed emotions. The original band of Texan loyalists and others who had jumped on the bandwagon were broken-hearted. Cowboys boosters were arrogant and proud to have supposedly "won the battle". Dallas was now theirs.

This record has been created by people who never lost their love for the Texans. These people regard the Chiefs as their son who had run away from home, because of lack of love. The original parents in Dallas knew the Chiefs were being loved and well cared for in Kansas City by their new foster parents, so their pain of separation was bearable.

This record is dedicated to the football fans of Missouri and Kansas who have demostrated beyond question the right to parenthood of a professional football team. Their love, and their support has brought them a world title, and the fans of the Dallas area are still waiting for their rainbow at the altar. This record album is dedicated by ex-Texan fans to all the Chief fans everywhere. Your support deserved a winner, and you got it. Our most sincere congratulations!

FRANK GLIEBER is sports director of KRLD-TV in Dallas and the play-by-play voice of the Dallas Coowboys on CBS-TV. He formerly held a similar position representing the Cleveland Browns. Frank is regarded as one of the most articulate of the nations sports-casters. He is constantly in command of any sports setting and has the ability to descibe sports action so that  it can be clearly pictured.

VERNE LUNDQUEST came on the national sports scene just two years ago as sports director for WFAA-TV. His nightly sportscasts at 6:20 PM and 10:25 PM quickly earned him the title of the most listened to sportscaster in the southwest. He is the postgame interviewer on the Dallas Cowboy radio network.

TERRY STEMBRIDGE a younf broadcaster, gained fame two years ago as the voice of the Dallas Chaparrals of the American Basketball Association. He has aired every game the Chaparrals have played - home and away - for KRLD radio. His graphic descriptions and use of words tab him as one of the bright young stars in play by play broadcasting.

This is from my personal collection and is a vintage New Old Stock rarity item.
A must have for any avid Chiefs Fan and audio enthusiast.
