Description
Up for auction is the rare US original Blues self titled LP by Lightnin' Hopkins on Folkways Records #FS 3822. Visually graded using Goldmine standards, the vinyl rates a VG+ with nice shine, a couple of light surface scratches on one side and very light wear on the other side. The jacket is also VG+ with some light soiling, a black mark at the top of the front cover and one split on the spine. Comes with the original insert liner notes in excellent condition with some light pencil on the front that could easily be erased. Overall a beautiful and hard to find copy. Low starting bid and no reserve!
Sam John Hopkins (March 15, 1912 – January 30, 1982), better known as Lightnin’ Hopkins, was an American country blues singer, songwriter, guitarist and occasional pianist, from Houston,Texas. Rolling Stone magazine included Hopkins at number 71 on their list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time.
Musicologist Robert "Mack" McCormick opined that Hopkins "is the embodiment of the jazz-and-poetry spirit, representing its ancient form in the single creator whose words and music are one act".
