Description
2 VERY RARE VINYL LAQUER MASTERS OF SANTANA - ZEBOP LP Auction is for 2 Laquer Masters & a standard LP pressing of Santana's 1981 album on Columbia !! Direct from the Automatt Recording Studios in San Francisco. Laquers are made from the master tapes and then given to the pressing plant where they are then "plated" and stamped into actual records. They are playable on regular record players/needles... very early in the lineage of the record - these would offer the best sound quality after the original master tapes.
groovesvinyl store One of the laquers contains 13 songs, the other 12.
Laquer "one" - dated 12-14-80 contains an extra track "Witch Queen" which I have found no reference to in Santana discographies - I assume then this is an UNRELEASED, possibly UNHEARD Santana track. "Witch Queen (of New Orleans)" is a track by Redbone, a 70's rock band that apparently Santana covered, then decided not to include on the album. The running order is completely different than the final LP as well....
Laquer "two" - dated 2-15-81 (Final Sequence) replaces "Witch Queen" with "Winning" and adds the song "Changes". This is the order as on the actual LP. There are hand-written titles on the labels as well as the dates.
Very cool find for the Santana enthusiast..!
PLAY GRADE: both discs play well - vinyl (one) has a few scuffs, nothing feelable... they appear to be little marks from the plastic inner sleeve being on the laquer over the years... A little extraneous noise as these laquers can have... VISUAL GRADE: DISC ONE VG+ has some plastic spotting marks and DISC TWO VG++ is shiny - well cared for. LABELS: hand written titles / dates. COVER: there is no cover, only inner sleeves and a yellow envelope marked Santana, LPs are stored within cardboard.
Bonus Zebop LP VG cover w/ edge wear // VG++ vinyl.
