Description
Extremely rare private jazz lp: ROD ESSELSTYN'S BAND, featuring DOC SEVERINSEN - Recorded Live at Happy Canyon (Pendleton, OR, I think) in 1964. Doc's last name is spelled incorrectly on the cover. Century Custom Records, 21133, microgroove, presumably mono. Doc Severinsen, of course, is an American pop and jazz trumpeter, and bandleader of the NBC Orchestra on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. I found an article online about the town of Echo, Oregon, that mentioned "Rod Esselstyn: Musician; well known in the community for performing at dances and other festivities". A 1950's newspaper article described Esselstyn’s band as “one of the best dance bands in the county". I also found an article in the Sept. 9, 1963 issue of the Tri-City Herald newspaper (Pendleton, Oregon) stating that Doc Severinsen would be appearing with a 14-piece band at the Western Show & the Happy Canyon Pageant in Pendleton on September 11-14. This was probably recorded at the same event, but in the following year ('64 instead of '63). The 13 tracks include: Mopsy Sunday Morning Blues In The Night Young Man With The Blues Cherry Point Teach Me Tonight Jacob Jones Tom's Thumb Just For A Thrill Basin Street Blues One O'Clock Jump Lament Kelley's Blues.
Condition is VG/G+ (vinyl has moderate scuffing, some soft surface marks and hairlines, and several soft scratches, two of which I can just barely feel - it plays well with no skips and sounds VG+ to EX with occasional soft background; clean labels; jacket has minor rubbing to spine and corners, some cover rubbing, an old price sticker to cover, a 4-inch split along the right side of the top edge, and an 8-inch split along the right side of the bottom edge).
(Vintage Vinyl, Records, LP, Album, Jazz, Swing, Trumpet, Pop, Carson, Pacific NW, Oregon, 1960's, Memorabilia, Collectible).

REGARDING IMAGE QUALITY: Some of our older listings have images of poor quality; a few months ago Ebay changed their image size policies, and I was forced to automatically enlarge the images for all of last years' remaining items, which caused them to be grainy and blurry.
