RECORD COLLECTOR’S GRADING SYSTEM 1995
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.
EXCELLENT: The record shows slight signs of having been played, but there is no lessening in sound quality and the cover and packaging are as new.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played quite a few times, but displays no major deterioration in the sound quality. A slight amount of wear and tear on the cover or extra items is acceptable.
GOOD: The record still produces a reasonable, playable sound but has obviously been played a lot. Although showing wear and tear, neither the record, cover nor contents display any major defects.
FAIR: It is noticeable that the record has been played so much that sound quality has deteriorated very noticeably. The cover and contents are showing signs of folding, scuffing of edges, etc.
POOR: The record is barely playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise and other deterioration in sound quality.
BAD: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be torn, stained, defaced or even missing.
