This is a very nice copy of Classic Records 180g pressing of the Mercury Living Presence recording of Ravel’s “Rhapsodie Espagnole”, “Alborada del Gracioso”, and “Pavane pour une Infante defunt” with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Paul Paray on 2 single single-sided 180 g.  45 RPM records.  The 45 RPM set only include the pieces from side one of from the complete original recording and has catalogue number SR90313-45.  This is the way that Classic issued this 45 rpm set.  It does not include “La Valse” or Ibert’s “Escales” that were on the original 33 rpm LP. The flyer that came with the original Classic 33 rpm release (not included with this 45 issue), states that these Classic/Mercury releases were “Produced, musically supervised and 3-to-2 channel conversion for LP by Wilma Cozart Fine.  Mastering Engieer for LP: Bernie Grundman. Only ORIGINAL MASTERS used for transfer to LP”.  My assumption is that these statements also apply to the 45 issues that Classic did of the 6 Mercury releases.  When I first bought this new, the records were cleaned with a VPI record cleaner and treated with LAST record preservative.  More recently it was recleaned with Audio Intelligent Fluids on a VPI cleaner and on an Audio Desk ultra sonic record cleaner.  It has also been demagnetized with a Furutech DeMag. 


There are no scuffs or scratches.  Disk 1 plays mostly quietly with 28 light ticks noticed.  Side 2 plays mostly very quietly but has 49 light ticks over the side.  I have only played the record a few times on various VPI tables I have owned (HW-19 MKIV, TNT 3.5, and Classic 4) using either Lyra or Benz Mico Ruby cartridges. The sound is naturally open and detailed. Each cover is a glossy 180g jacket as originally issued by Classic.  There are no seam splits or ring wear but there is some compression at each top corner of both jackets.  Only side A of each LP is pressed.  Side B is blank.  Multiple records can be combined in an order to save shipping costs.
