Description

  • This is an original 7" 45RPM, from 1963! Fun Facts About This Record: After Buddy Holly's tragic plane crash, producer Norman Petty looked for a replacement artist. He selected Ray Ruff (a fellow West Texan), and cloned him in Holly's image! The distinctive tape echo and warm vocal fidelity were captured using the same equipment Buddy Holly used to record his classic hits just a few years prior! These tracks were specifically engineered with a 'hot' master mix so they would cut through static and stand out on teenagers' portable transistor radios! The identity of the songwriter 'Jackson' on the A-side still remains a mystery to historians -they've never been able to verify if Lee Jackson was a real local musician, a studio stage name, or simply a friend credited for a lyrical idea! Shortly after this record was released, Ray Ruff left Norman Records for another label and production was cut short, making this record significantly scarcer for collectors!
