Up for bid is a rare 2 LP promo set "I'm in Love with You - The Songs and Music of Raphel Chicorel" by the Ray Tabs Trio (Penny Goodwin's backing band) with Sandra Mandella. This was released on the Pleasure label (102-1-2) in 1972. Both LPs are NM, with no scuffs or scratches. LPs are very clean and still retain a nice gloss. The gatefold jacket is VG+, no split seams. All four corners show corner wear. The corners of the lip of the gatefold jacket show heavier wear than the other corners, with light creasing. There is a crease in the front lower left corner. There is light ring wear on the front and back of the jacket. There is creasing along the lip on the back of the jacket. Front of the jacket has a "Promotional Copy" sticker in the center. An obscure double-length jazzy set from the early 70s Midwest scene -- one that features the compositions of producer Raphael Chicorel, recorded on one album's worth of vocal tunes, and one of instrumentals! The vocal set features singer Sandra Mandella -- interpreting a set of laid back and introspective tunes that go past the usual supper club sort of jazz you might expect -- really personal little tunes that have a slightly sad sort of quality. Backings are by the Ray Tabs trio -- featuring Ray on piano, electric piano and organ -- and that group steps out nicely on the second batch of instrumental tunes for the set -- numbers that dance along with a bit more of a groove, and feature warm colors and tones coming into the mix. Raphael actually sings on 2 of the numbers in the instrumental set -- including the great "You're My Reason", which has some great Latin percussion, and the sing-song "Walking With Jocko". We'll admit that we know little of any artist involved in the set -- but there's a really great sort of feel here -- homegrown, but ambitious -- professional, yet nicely personal. Other tracks include "The Bird", "Dear Dorine", "Simultaneously", "The Horses Visited Last Night", "You're My Christmas", "I'm In Love With You", and "When Love Was New".
