Mega rare private press box set with an experimental music theater piece about Che Guevara, a collaboration between composers Andriessen, Mengelberg, Schat, De Leeuw, and Van Vlijmen and librettists Hugo Claus and Harry Mulisch, featuring Dutch free jazz players Han Bennink and Willem Breuker and musique concrete electronic music realized at STEIM (the Dutch studio for electro-instrumental music). The work is a radically avant garde anti-American imperialism "revolutionary opera" which made its composers notorious - and allegedly offended Richard Nixon so much that he cut Holland from his European tour that year! Includes full libretto booklet, plus this copy comes with several STEIM promotional inserts that were not packaged with most copies (including a 2 page leaflet by Andriessen about STEIM).

Breuker was a Dutch experimental jazz player and composer best known for his groups Instant Composers Pool (with Han Bennink and Misha Mengelberg) and Willem Breuker Kollektief; he played in Globe Unity Orchestra and the Gunter Hampel Group, founded the record labels BVHaast and ICP, and collaborated with Alexander von Schlippenbach, Manfred Schoof, Peter Brotzmann, Gerd Dudek, Peter Kowald, Anthony Braxton, Steve Lacy, Evan Parker, Piet Noordijk, Leo Cuypers, and Derek Bailey. • Dutch free jazz drummer Bennink first earned fame for playing in the groups of Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, and Eric Dolphy when they toured Holland; he would go on to found the Instant Composers Pool with Misha Mengelberg and Willem Breuker and the Clusone Trio with Ernst Reijseger and Michael Moore, and play with Peter Brotzmann, Derek Bailey, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Don Cherry, Globe Unity Orchestra, Steve Lacy, Roswell Rudd, Fred Van Hove, Lee Konitz, Paul Bley, and The Ex. • Dutch avant garde composer Andriessen studied under his father Hendrik, Kees van Baaren, and Luciano Berio. • Dutch-Ukrainian pianist and conceptual composer Mengelberg founded the ICP Orchestra/Instant Composers Pool with Han Bennink and Willem Breuker, worked as director of the BIM/BIMHuis and STEIM music organizations, and has performed and recorded as an avant garde jazz pianist with Eric Dolphy, Evan Parker, Peter Brotzmann, Cecil Taylor, and Derek Bailey for labels such as FMP/SAJ, Hat Art, Bvhaast, Soul Note, Incus, and Tzadik; he was a student of Kees van Baaren in the 1960s (along with Louis Andriessen, Mengelberg, Schat, van Vlijmen, and de Leeuw) and his early influences included John Cage, Charlie Parker, and Thelonious Monk. • Rienbert de Leeuw is a Dutch conductor, composer, keyboardist, and writer who studied under Jaap Spaanderman and Kees van Baaren, worked with Peter Schat, Jan van Vlijmen, Mischa Mengelberg, and Louis Andriessen, wrote extensively on Charles Ives, and is known for his piano interpretations of Erik Satie. • Dutch composer Schat studied under Pierre Boulez and Kees van Baaren alongside Louis Andriessen and Misha Mengelberg.
