Description
Soulville SV-1003 vinyl is VG++
Side A: "I AIM TO PLEASE" (a total floor stomper!)
Side B: "LOVE'S NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE" (the best ballad I've ever heard)
(I can't understand why nobody's ever heard it and covered it.)
I just had to include a picture of the "Soulville All-Stars".
I don't have any pictures of RENEE PERRI.
This is my personal copy which I've burned to CD and it has been treated with loving kindness all these years.
Still looks and plays like it's brand new.
I'm Rick, guitarist for the "Soulville All-Stars", and our band had the good fortune to be able
to back up Renee Perri on this song. So, It's really a Renee Perri / Soulville All-Stars session.
I think this was our second time in the studio after the All-Stars cut the first record on the Soulville label.
It's my favorite record that I've ever played on.
Bobby Fulton brought in some extra horns for this session and, sadly, they got buried in the final mix.
The horns were so strong in the studio that I had to catch my breath.
A bit of history about this session:
We were all set and ready for the session and there were the extra horn players, etc.
In those days we were never allowed more than one or two 'takes' for the recording of the instruments.
I don't remember if we did the music track in one take, or two. I just KNOW it wasn't 3 'takes'.
NO OVERDUBS!
Everything was done in two parts.
Lay down the music...and then one more time for the vocals.
NOTHING ELSE!
Then came the time for RENEE to do the vocal track.
She did the vocals once, and when she was finished she ran into the mixing room asking Bobby if she could sing it one more time.
Studio time was expensive and everything was on a tight budget.
She kept pleading with Bobby Fulton to let her do just one more 'take'.
Bobby gave in, and the result is what you'll hear on this record.
For all of these 42 years, I've wondered where she's been and what she has done. (and no answers)
I hope you'll enjoy this record as much as I did playing on it.

Some nice person also put this RENEE PERRI song on YouTube.
Also, please see my listing for THE HYDRAULIC PEACH 45 that me and another Soulville All-Star played on
after the Soulville All-Star days were over.
