Reference Recordings RR-15 – Respighi “Church Windows”, The Pacific Symphony, Keith Clark (1984) – This 45 rpm, analogue recording was funded by Harry Pearson and TAS. HP himself would not review it because of “conflict of interest,” so he asked J. Gordon Holt to review it in Stereophile, and Holt said “I think it's the best symphonic recording I have heard, bar none”. He goes on to say “This is, quite simply, a stupendous recording of a probably-definitive performance. It makes RR's last symphonic effort (the Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique) sound almost pallid by comparison.” The sound is exceptionally natural and musical with pinpoint imaging and a wonderful hall sound, ambiance and remarkable bass. The high point of the recording is the tam-tam crash at the end of side 1. This copy is virtually perfect – I purchased it myself in 1984 when it was first released and have played it only twice since then – once when I purchased it and once tonight. The vinyl surfaces are clean, glossy, and exceptionally quiet with NO pops, clicks, tics, or skips - it is perfectly quiet, with NO marks whatsoever. The vinyl looks and plays mint (M). The Jacket looks new except for a tiny split in the middle of the top seam (see photo). In summary, this is a MINT copy of this wonderful audiophile analogue recording.
