Yellow & Black Parlophone Label

Mono 1966

This is an original Mono copy of Revolver, by The Beatles, released in 1966 on the iconic Yellow & Black Parlophone Label.

This is a Remix 9 press, of the track ''Tomorrow Never Knows'' on Side Two, with Matrices being Side One XEX605-2 & Side Two being XEX606-2. Remix 11 was the abandoned mix, authorised by John Lennon. This press also displays the corrected label credit of ''Doctor Robert'' on Side Two, which John also authorised, as he didn't like the abreviation of Dr. However, oddly, as with all copies of Revolver, the error remained on the sleeve, in abreviated form!

Its Mother for Side One is '6' and Stamper 'RLL', being '288' and Side Two Mother is '4' and Stamper 'RHR', being '272'. 

The Yellow & Plack Parlophone Label has ‘The Gramophone Co. Ltd’ text around the rim and it also has ‘Sold in the U.K. Subject to Resale Price Conditions, See Price Lists’ along the label, below Parlophone.  

  The vinyl on both sides has some surface marks and some spindle wear, too. The two label has the evidence of where a name sticker may have been, which must have been removed years ago, leaving a trace on the black, but no actual paper damage to the label, just a ghost image, as can be seen in the close up of the label. I would say this is in VG condition, having been played, with some signs wear, but still in nice, presentable, original conditon  

 The flip-back Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve is all fine, with signs of gentle discolouration of the white laminate, with odd creases and corner wear, but with a clean matt back, showing some corner wear, but no damage. Interestingy it still has the record shop price sticker, which can be seen, top right of the back of the cover, with 32/-5½! For those too young to know what this means (sad!) it is Thirty Two Shillings Five Pence Ha'penny! Being £3. 2/-5½. If you bear in mind the average wage was probably £25 per week, you can see just how much records cost and the dreaded Purchase Tax (luxury tax!) took up  a large part of that price! But this is why records in the 60s and before, were cherished and why they are an endearing reminder of those days, when things mattered and were meant to last, as this has!

This LP has the original EMItex inner sleeve, which is in really nice, original condition, with no damage.

Grading is subjective and all I can do is look, listen and try to be honest in what I pass on, so please bear that in mind, but for those unsure, below is The Record Collector's Guide, which is just that; a guide.

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler."

As well as the above grades, Near Mint is often used as well; this is really for a record that appears new but is known to have been played because the label has light spindle marks or because it has come from a previous owner and is assumed to have been played by them. For records which appear to fall between the accepted grades, + and - are also often added to the grading.

In addition to the basic grading, any individual faults should be noted separately such as if an otherwise Excellent cover has a name written on it, or a 7" single is missing its original centre etc.
