Richard Davis ORIG FRE LP Muses For Richard Davis VG+ 70 MPS 15021 Jazz Hard Bop
Original French LP released in 1970 on MPS Records. Cat: MPS 15021. Comes in a gloss gatefold sleeve.
Bass virtuoso Richard Davis enlisted a core group of his colleagues from the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra for this 1969 recording. It's a meeting of post-bop titans who not only know how to play, but also how to play together. Davis, himself, was a regular in the Jones/Lewis organization from 1966 to 1972. The set includes smartly written arrangements for septet and sextet, and a fresh interpretation of "Softly as in a Morning Sunrise" from Davis, Sir Roland Hanna (piano), and Louis Hayes (drums). Their reworking of this standard is crisp, angular, and propulsive.

There are some spindle marks on labels. Record has some light scuff marks and very light scratches that cause some light crackles and is in VG+ condition. Gloss gatefold cover has light ring wear, light marks and a piece of sticky tape along bottom edge and is in Excellent condition.
Wrapping method: All records are sent in stiff cardboard mailers then wrapped in brown paper and sealed around edges with brown packaging tape. Records are taken out of sleeve to avoid seam splits and ring wear.
