Description
This is a rare autographed insert with the 45 r.p.m. boxed set recording of the motion picture soundtrack of "OKLAHOMA!" with music by RICHARD RODGERS (who signed the insert) and book and lyrics by OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II. Based on the groundbreaking Broadway musical which opened March 31st, 1943 at New York's St. James Theatre and ran for 2212 performances, the film starred SHIRLEY JONES (in her film debut) and GORDON MacRAE and featured GLORIA GRAHAME, GENE NELSON, CHARLOTTE GREENWOOD, ROD STEIGER, EDDIE ALBERT and JAMES WHITMORE. Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein personally oversaw the film to prevent the studio from making changes of the kind that were then typical of stage-to-film musical adaptations—such as putting in new songs by different composers ..... CREDITS: Music by RICHARD RODGERS; Book and Lyrics by OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN 2nd based on the play "Green Grow the Lilacs" by LYNN RIGGS. (This was the first collaboration for Rodgers and Hammerstein who would go on to write "Carousel", "The King and I", "South Pacific", "Flower Drum Song" and "The Sound of Music" among others); Musical Arrangements by ROBERT RUSSELL BENNETT; Choreographed by AGNES de MILLE; Directed by FRED ZINNEMANN; Produced by ARTHUR HORNBLOW, Jr. ..... DETAILS: This boxed set includes four discs with a total of twelve songs. They are housed in a fold-open box that measures 7 3/8" X 7 3/8" inches. The insert (shown in three of the scanned images) was signed by composer RICHARD RODGERS (inscribed, "Sincerely"). The set will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity ..... CONDITION: (Please Note!) If you are buying this set for the records, I'm sure you can find another set in much better condition for a fraction of the cost. The records have been played and one is cracked and the box has tears at the seam. The autographed insert, with the exception of light creasing is in excellent condition. This rare item will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. It will be carefully packaged for safe transport.
