Description

Richard Wagner - Der Ring Des Nibelungen

Below information taken from Discogs.
Australian WRC 4th pressing, with the new post-1974 R- numbers - at least on some of the sets: WRC were not consistent in updating their labels for reissues. Not issued on other formats.

An Introduction To Der Ring Des Nibelungen has the S- numbers (S-4948, S-4949, S-4950), with the 1974-style tall headers.(3LPs)
Das Rheingold has the S- numbers (S-4951, S-4952, S-4953), with the 1974-style tall headers.(3LPs)
Die Walküre has the S- numbers (S-4954, S-4955, S-4956, S-4957, S-4958), with the 1974-style tall headers.(5LPs)
Siegfried has the new R- numbers (R-00665, R-00666, R-00667, R-00668, R-00669), with "stereo" present at bottom left of the labels. (5LPs)
Götterdämmerung has the new R- numbers (R-00670, R-00671, R-00672, R-00673, R-00674, R-00675), with "stereo" present at bottom left of the labels. (6 LPs)

Issued in two heavy-duty-vinyl "Clubman" boxes.
The inner sleeves and librettos are unchanged from earlier pressings, which were very similar to the 1970 Decca format (for RING 1-22). The package is presented as five discrete albums, each with its own libretto, and each with its own side numbering. There is no overarching catalogue number, only the number on each disc - the most relevant is the one given at the top, the new R- number for the first disc of Siegfried. Also given is the first of the old S- numbers.
Subsequent notes by myself.
Booklets with synopsis & libretto identical to those in the 3 previous reissues (RING S-1) by London (1967), & Decca (RING 1-22) in 1970, & there was a preceding German reissue in 1973, hence the 4th reissue.
The LPs are in superb condition, having been previously been owned by a Classical FM Radio presenter in Sydney, Australia, if played at all sparingly. There are also some handwritten notes by him, for quick reference to LP side contents.
Some damp spots found in external pages of booklets only, especially in the introduction - minimal amount in Gotterdamerung, plus some outer sleeves.
Please refer to photos, & also for colour coding of the introduction (gold) & the individual operas (aqua, sky blue, red, purple)
LPs all checked , look good, photograph of one taken as an example, as I am restricted to 24 photos,
22 LPs, 5 booklets.
Total weight of set is 5.2 kg - shipping weight makes allowances for sturdy cardboard box & packing materials.
Does not have the weight of the RING 1-22 set which comes in a heavy wooden box.

Will ship as one lot only in its 2 "Clubman" vinyl boxes, wrapped in bubble wrap, in sturdy cardboard box, definitely will not break up.

I am selling this set as I already own the complete cycle on early LPs plus the 3LP Introduction to the Ring box, & also on CD.

On July 23, 2024, the day of listing, I looked up Discogs, & apparently none of these sets have sold there.
PRICED TO SELL - on the day, I saw a set of the UK RING 1-22 (in wooden box) in Australia & equivalents in the USA list for AUS$350
Price reduction due to the damp spots in the Introduction booklet & the odd spot elsewhere.

I can ship anywhere in the world, if anyone wishes to buy this cycle in this form, or local pick up from Penshurst, NSW, where I will also give you the cardboard box, in addition to the 2 included "Clubman" boxes.
