"Rick & the Ravens are solely known for including Ray Manzarek on keyboards and vocals and recording three rare mid-'60s singles before the formation of the Doors. Manzarek is the singer on all of these, and the writer of four of the six songs. The first two singles, "Soul Train"/"Geraldine" and "Henrietta/"Just for You," are adequate but generic rock/R&B songs with "Soul Train" bearing a strong resemblance to Gary U.S. Bonds' "New Orleans." "Big Bucket T" (in which Manzarek sings with a slur that makes the title sound like "Big Fuckin' T") is a weird, R&B-colored hot rod song, while its flip, "Rampage," is a surf instrumental, again with heavier blues influences than most efforts in the genre.
Please note the singles were meant as promotional material only. They were never in wide circulation, nor were they even meant to be published outside the promotional circuits. On the "Soul Train / Geraldine" single, the artist is labeled "Ray Daniels feat. Rick & the Ravens", with "Ray Daniels" double billed. The last singles were initially meant as vehicles to promote Ray Manczarek (billed as "Ray Daniels") as lead artist, with the Ravens merely a backing band. Promotional material presented the artist as "Rick & the Ravens featuring the Voice of Ray Daniels". These plans were discarded when Morrison joined the line-up."


So not only is this already a killer, rare cut, but this is a weird variation that I couldn't find any information on. Everything about it matches up with known copies, from the music down to the spelling of "Manczarek" and the catalog number in the deadwax. The record itself is in VG+ condition, and has no major scratches or scuffs, and play very strongly. I don't have a VPI, but the serious collector that buys this might be able to clean it up to EXC without much trouble. The labels look perfect and crisp. In the interest of providing as much detail as possible, I found this  amongst a few other Doors items in a thrift store in Southern California... not very far from its origin!

This belongs in the hands of a Doors collector, or anyone with a deep appreciation of rock n roll history. I've never seen another one and it might be a long time until another becomes available.
