Description

 The Crickets last release on Coral Records features David Box on vocals and guitar.  On side one is Davids remake of Buddy Holly's "Peggy Sue Got Married" with David on vocals as well as rhythm and lead guitar.  The guitar break is an acoustic version of Buddy's electric guitar solo but far more inspired than even Buddy's.  Drums are my Jerry Allison, Joe B. Mauldin bass, Ernie Hall rhythm guitar.  Side two is David's "Doncha Know" with David on vocals and guitar, Jerry Allison rhythm guitar, Joe B. Mauldin bass and Ernie Hall on drums.  These recordings were made on August 11, 1960 David's 17th birthday.  After assisting the Crickets in fulfilling some local LA dates he and Ernie returned to Lubbock so David could finish his last two years of high school at Monterey High School.  He did graduate high school in 1962 but not from Monterey but rather from Lubbock High  School (Buddy Holly's old alma mater).  David went on to record several singles but tragically he met the same fate as his idol Buddy Holly.  On October 23, 1964 while in route to a gig with Buddy Groves and The Kings mechanical problems in their small plane caused the accident that took all on boards lives.  He was 21.
