Description
This record is as close to mint condition as can be possible for an original 1969 recording.
I bought this record in 1990 from a collector who was selling all his vinyl in order to replace his records with CD’s(?). I was informed by him that he had bought it from new and only played it maybe a dozen times.
Since it has been with me I have never played it. This record has been properly stored, not out of its sleeves for the last twenty years and therefore hardly played at all from being bought in 1969.
Just before I have put this piece together I have played it on my Technics 1210 mk2 home set up static hifi deck; Stanton 505II cartridge with a brand new stylus to check it sounds as good as it looks. On playing, it is that clean, there is not even any discernable surface noise between tracks.
The sound quality is astounding, I compared this with the reissue copy I use and I had a few moments of doubting selling this. Firstly when the choir starts on “you can’t always get what you want” my reissue copy fuzzes with the intensity of the sound and crackles as the words ‘you want’ are sung, but with the original, there is no such occurrence, there is definite air in between each word and no distortion what so ever.
The most significant difference is heard when I compare “let it bleed”. The reissue copy gives the opening guitar a hard tinny sound that sits just right of centre and is sort of placed in one spot, the original however has a depth and bass that spreads the sound from the right into the centre and also brings the sound forward into the listening space rather than hiding in the speaker. The difference when the snare starts was, quite astounding. On the reissue it is as if a cheap banger had been set off inside the left speaker and it is harsh with no real presence apart from the sound of itself. The 1969 original is clean and crisp, and on the first couple of strikes before the piano and bass drop in, you can hear it as if it is a real snare in the room.
As you can see from the images, on the vinyl there are no surface marks at all.
The outer sleeve is brilliantly shiny on the front side with no wear to the edges or corners
There are a couple of slight wrinkles along the spine but no cracks through the laminated surface
There is a slight amount of damage to the back of the sleeve where the cover has cracked. When I bought it, I noticed this, and was told that this crime was committed by his girlfriend at the time he bought it. She caused the damage because she was too eager trying to get inside at the poster.
The poster has a small piece missing from top right and shows signs of being hung with blue tack but for some reason shows none of the ‘grease’ residue I would have expected from blue tack, there is just a slight wrinkling where it was attached. Other than that it is in good condition with no splits along the folds. To be honest apart from this one, I have not seen a stereo copy ever that still has the original poster

Just for the record pun intended I am a collector and D.J. I am selling this copy in order to generate a bit of cash which I will use to buy more records, probably Japanese pressings of jazz records. On the strength of this auction I am probably also going to be listing a copy of the first album from 1964, mono pressing, Decca unboxed which has the vinyl in the same, and the sleeve in better condition than this piece. I am also looking at listing a blue label Decca unboxed, mono copy of “their satanic majesties request” with the 3D picture, and gatefold cover in fine condition; inner sleeve not quite as pristine but still near mint condition on the vinyl. All listings will be given plenty of images for visual assessment.
This will be a straight forward auction, running the course as it were so I can gauge interest on the other items I may be listing so happy biddingprice rating
