* Original UK 1965 earliest 1st pressing with red grooved label and 'Clout & Baker' printed sleeve *
VG+ (sleeve)/ VG+ (vinyl-aural) condition
A note on my approach to selling records: Listings for records on eBay often fall short on detail both visually and descriptively, which can lead to disappointment. I take revealing photos, often in harsh light, so that you can actually see what you’ll get. I also describe honestly what you’ll hear. CONDITION:
Sleeve: VG+
As far as I know, when this album was released Clout & Baker printed the first run of sleeves, but it was a short run, and soon after Robert Stace took over. Thereafter all sleeves were printed by RS. This one is in very good used condition, quite rare for any early OOUH album, even more so for a Clout & Baker first issue. Nice and clean both sides. The laminate has retained most of its sheen, and there is only minor ring wear. No laminate lift, no seam splits, all edges still sharp - very clean opening, and the spine is in nice fully legible condition. Just a few light creases as can be seen in the photos. The back is in very good condition, unusually clean and clear, no writing or stickers, with the white of the card having turned very slightly off-white completely consistent with age.Inner sleeve: VG+
Original inner sleeve in used but clean condition, totally intact, no splits, no significant yellowing, just one or two light natural creases from decades spent inside the sleeve.Labels: VG
Spindle marks - clearly the record has been played, but the labels are in otherwise great condition.
Vinyl-visual: G+
It has been played, but both sides are clean with a black sheen. There are surface marks and fine lines to be seen - see photos. However, these are NOT scratches and there is NO groove damage. NONE of the lines and marks shown in the photos make a sound when the LP is played.
Vinyl-aural: VG+
Despite the visual marks, it plays very well on both sides all the way through. There are NO scratches. The sound is powerful and punchy and clear, without any obvious distortion. There is a little light crackling and surface noise which comes and goes, and the occasional tick every now and then, but none of this interferes with the listening experience and enjoyment. From beginning to end a full-bodied great 'wall of mono sound'!
GRADING:
I follow RECORD COLLECTOR guidelines, and use Good (G or G+), Very Good (VG or VG+), Excellent (EX or EX+), and Near Mint or Mint. The majority of the records I sell range from VG+ to Near Mint, and come from my collection of over 1,500 albums and singles. I listen to them on a Rega Planar 3 turntable.
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
(FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced).
