Roxy Music (Bryan Ferry) Country Life LP With Original & Replacement Covers

I think one great sideline of vinyl collecting is when initial issues of LP covers and/or songs are changed due to decisions from record company management, from censors, or due to complaints from the buying public.

Cases in point include The Beatles’ “Butcher Cover” and the Mamas & Papas’ “Toilet” Cover? And don’t forget the Dave Clark Five’s “No-Instruments” Cover, Blind Faith’s “Topless Girl” Cover. Three Dog Night had two cover changes: their “Nude” Cover (they weren’t really nude, but in flesh-tone body suits) and their “Birthing” Cover. Replacement covers were issued for all of these LPs that were changed from the original covers.

In this auction is Roxy Music’s original cover for their “Country Life” LP as well as the replacement cover. So, in this auction there are 2 LPs (Vinyl & Covers):

LP#1:

• “COUNTRY LIFE” LP by Roxy Music

• This LP was released by ATCO Records.

• This is ATCO SD 36-106.

• It was released in 1975.

• This ORIGINAL COVER has 2 women in their underwear. It was found to be objectionable for obvious reasons. The ladies are standing in front of bushes or a hedge.

• On the replacement cover, the ladies are gone but the bushes or hedge remain!!

• The ORIGINAL COVER is in NICE VG CONDITION. There is light to moderate corner wear and very small pushes on the bottom two corners. A little bit of slight flaking has caused a small ½ -inch piece of the slick to be missing at the mid-point of the spine. The rear cover has the initials “CE” written in black marker in two places, and there are a few very small pieces on the rear cover slick missing at the top left corner where a sticker, that was placed over one set of the initials, was removed. There is a small and light 1 ½ -inch surface cease at the lower right corner of the rear cover that does not affect the front cover image. There are NO seam splits and NO ring wear. The front cover image is NICE and CLEAN.

• The VINYL that comes with the Original Cover is in VERY STRONG VG+ to WEAK NEAR MINT (NM) CONDITION with just a few very light/slight surface hairlines/scuffs. (NONE are “feel-able” at all.) The labels are clean, and the vinyl has LOTS of GLOSS.

• ALSO INCLUDED is its ORIGINAL GLOSSY CUSTOM INNER SLEEVE with song lyrics and credits. The inner sleeve has light signs of handling and a 3-inch split on the bottom center edge.

LP# 2:

• “COUNTRY LIFE” LP by Roxy Music

• This LP was released by ATCO Records.

• This is ATCO SD 36-106.

• It was released in 1975.

• On this REPLACEMENT COVER, the ladies in their underwear are gone but the bushes or hedge still remain!!

• In fact, the BUSH/HEDGE slick on the front cover is really the same slick that is on the reverse of the original first cover with the negative reversed.

• The REPLACEMENT COVER is still in its ORIGINAL SHRINK WRAP with STICKER on it. This COVER would be in Nice VG+ CONDITION; however some heavy wear and damage at the the top left corner and the top 1-inch of the spine will, of course, lower that grade. There is light to moderate wear on three corners. The shrink wrap has: a 1-inch x ½ -inch piece of shrink missing at the top left corner, a 3-inch split in the shrink at the bottom of the rear cover near the opening and a couple of very small snags on the spine.

• The shrink wrap on the front cover still has the Uncommon Roxy Music Sticker that identifies the LP and lists the cuts on it. Most of these stickers were trashed along with the shrink wrap when the LP was opened.

• The VINYL that comes with the Replacement Cover is in VERY STRONG VG+ to WEAK NEAR MINT CONDITION with just a few very light/slight surface hairlines/scuffs. (NONE are “feel-able” at all.) The labels are clean, and the vinyl has LOTS of GLOSS.

• This LP DOES NOT HAVE the GLOSSY CUSTOM INNER SLEEVE with song lyrics and credits.

So, in this auction, you get both the ORIGINAL and REPLACEMENT COVERS of ROXY MUSIC’S COUNTRY LIFE LP.
