Rush - Moving Pictures Vinyl LP
Presswell Pressing, Masterdisk mastering By Bob Ludwig

  • Description

The eighth studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, Moving Pictures is a tour de force with a first side that is packed with incredible well known hits Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, YYZ, and Limelight. The second side contains the New York and London inspired The Camera Eye, Witch Hunt which is one in a series of Fear themed songs that include The Weapon (from the Signals album), The Enemy Within (Grace Under Pressure), and Freeze (Vapor Trails). The album concludes with Vital Signs.

The cover is famously a triple entendre where the front depicts movers who are carrying pictures. The reverse shows people crying because the pictures passing by are emotionally "moving" and finally the film crew on the back are making a motion (moving) picture of the whole scene. A brilliant design by Hugh Syme, the scenes were photographed outside the Ontario Legislative Building at Queen's Park, Toronto.

This particular example of the album is not in the best shape and could be considered an okay starter copy. Although still within its shrinkwrap, there are signs of damage as detailed below. Also included is the original inner sleeve that has two cut edges and a 6-inch side split.

We provide high quality photographs so you can gauge condition for yourself. We do our best to describe condition issues that may not be obvious in the images. For more information on how we grade, check out the section below.

To prevent cover seam splits, unsealed records will have their media removed from their covers and both the media, in its original inner sleeve, and the cover will be slipped into an outer poly sleeve for further protection. We ship in purpose-built LP mailers with cardboard stiffners to prevent folding. To reduce our carbon footprint and save you some cost, we usually reuse mailers we've received in the past.

Please check out our store. We have all kinds of media including music, movies, books, and memorabilia.

  • How We Grade

Record grading is not a definite science and is subjective. We try our best to be as accurate as possible and follow the Goldmine Grading System described in the table below. We provide high quality photographs so you can gauge condition for yourself. In the item description, we do our best to describe condition issues that may not be obvious in the images.

Grade Cover (Outer Sleeve) Media (Vinyl) Near Mint (NM) Nearly perfect, no writing, no after-purchase stickers, no markings, free of creases, ring wear, and seam splits. Shiny/glossy, no visible surface defects, label is centered, very little (if any) spindle marks, plays without significant surface noise. Excellent (E) There may be very slight ring wear or discolorization that is barely noticable. There may be slight wear, like very minor corner or seam wear or a bottom split that is less than an inch long. There may be a discount notch, drill hole, or corner cut. Slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect playability. May have a slight warp that does not impact listening experience. Very Good (VG) Imperfections are more noticable than above. Ring wear, corner or edge damage will be obvious. Some creases may be visible and seam splits may appear on more than one side, but are not obvious. There may be some writing too. Usually have some scratches that may be audible, especially in soft passages and during song gaps. Any noise does not overpower the music and is otherwise a fine listening experience. Minor writing, tape or a sticker can detract from the label. Good (G) There is significant ring wear, corner and edge damage and heavy wear. There may be heavy writing, tape, or stickers, or residue left from a removed sticker. Seam splits are obvious and significant. Plays through without skipping but there is significant surface noise and the label may be worn. The surface has long since lost its luster. Fair (F), Poor (P) Heavily damaged. Entire seams may be split. Significant warping, noise and skipping.

We believe the bar is set so high with the mint grade that we don't use it. As Goldmine says, "These are absolutely perfect in every way. Often rumored but rarely seen, mint should never be used as a grade unless more than one person agrees that the record or sleeve truly is in this condition."
