HIGHLY UNDERATED LONG FORGOTTEN MOOG & MELLOTRON KRAUTROCK PROGRESSIVE GEM!
LONG TRACKS - ONE OF THE HARDEST TO FIND ON THE GREAT DAWN LABEL
Here's an original 1975 UK 1st PRESSING vinyl LP issue of SAHARA - SUNRISE, released in England on Dawn Records DNLS 3068.
Great and very rare Krautrock prog classic containing a varied prog sound, sometimes veering classical, sometimes jazz, and at others, bluesy.
Before they were Sahara, this band were known as Subject Esq. Sahara's second album "Sunrise" is a stunning album mixing prog, krautrock, jazz, folk and fusion elements. Hard to exactly peg this album into one category but imagine a heavy mix of Jethro Tull, with early Yes and snippets of Nektar and Eloy you might have an idea of their sound. Musically these guys blend mellotron/organ/piano symphonia with flutes, guitars and accentuated bass in a well crafted format not unlike Yes did. Vocals are sung in English and are very well done making this album a real little gem of the 70's progressive era. Although both sides are amazing, it is side two that is the real treasure featuring the mindblowing and brilliant 27 minutes long two suite epic title track "Sunrise". This is one of the best multi-movement epic suites ever, certainly one of the most varied: from electronica to classical, but mostly their own typical rock music that has its own sound and cannot be easily pigeonholed to classic UK prog bands. Definitely one of the best "trad-prog" (this means more or less symphonic, but there is so much more to it than that) album out of Germany along with the first Grobschnitt album.
This great album is a must for lovers of fine progressive music everywhere.

Vinyl: VG+
(Visually clean, bright and glossy. Some light inner sleeve removal marks, faint wispy hairlines and 1 or 2 light surface marks each side. On playback, except for the 2nd track on side two where you can hear a few 'clicks', the album plays excellently with some occasional light background crackle and a couple of tiny clicks in the quiet parts and between the tracks. Nothing too serious. Overall a very nice original UK 1st pressing of this great and increasingly hard to find 1970's krautrock progressive album)
Labels: Mint-
(Both labels are clean and unmarked with only a couple of near invisible spindle traces. No writing or any other faults on both labels)
LP Sleeve: EX
(Original UK 1st pressing thin fragile unlaminated matt sleeve 'Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd.' Overall in crisp, flat and excellent condition. A few tiny creases on the front and back near the edges with some light ringwear on the rear. All text on the spine is clear and legible. A lovely original copy of this great sleeve)
