Description

HERE is "SALAAMING THE RAJAH" and "DREAM SWEETHEART" by RUDY VALLEE AND HIS YALE COLLEGIANS.  This is from the very first recording session (August 29, 1928) by Vallée, who of course, went on to major celebrity on record, radio, silver screen, TV and boudoir.

This is unlike any other record by Rudy Vallée.  It's his only acoustical recording (the rest are electrical), and Rudy doesn't sing! Instead, there's the standard-issue stentorian "Record" singer, in this case "Sleepy Ward." Rudy sticks to his reeds, doing section work.

"Salaaming the Rajah" is a total goof, pure "Roaring '20s," one of those "Up on your heels! Down on your toes!" kinda tunes; the sort of song you'd have heard at an Elks convention in Atlantic City in 1928, with boozy people wearing lampshades. "Dream Sweetheart" actually is the jazzier of the two sides, moving at anything but a "dream" -like pace.

This original 1928 Velvet-Tone 1728-V is in pretty nice E- condition.

*****

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
