Description
INITIUM by Samhain. 1984, first pressing from white marble run, small ring around spindle hole, black vinyl.
This is an original first pressing from the “white marble run” copy of the 1984 release of INITIUM by Samhain.
I am the original owner – I bought it shortly after its release in 1984.
I take very good care of my records and this LP has not left my possession since I originally purchased it in 1984. The condition of the cover is VG++, showing only minor wear. Please see pictures where I’m showing you close-ups of any flaws that are evident. The vinyl is a very clean NM. I’m usually super picky before declaring something NM, but I think this qualifies.
I have had some help with the excellent Facebook group known as Fiend Collectors to verify the pressing and rarity of this copy.
This run is considered to be a part of the first pressing, though a second run. The initial run has the larger hole around the spindle. This run was done on the fly, as the band was getting ready to hit the road and needed albums to sell. See below from Michael Evan Goodman’s article on the run from Discogs.
NOTES FROM DISCOGS:
First pressing from the white marbled run.
Most copies, if not all, have a series pressing defect on the B-side where static surface noise runs from the last second for Horror Biz all the way through to Archangel. Scratches are also seen in Archangel, but these are from the stampers. A whitish stain can be seen in Horror Biz on some copies. Pictures of two copies with these flaws are provided.
The band wanted records to sell on tour, so they drove to Europadisk to ask that their records be pressed immediately. According to lore, towards the end of the pressing, Glenn Danzig requested a few white copies be made, so white pellets were added to the press. This resulted in black copies with white streaks, marbled grey, and white copies.
This particular version is all black. It is often confused with the next pressing that had a large ring around the center hole and a lyric sheet. This version has a small ring around the center hole. The center rings are created by the press, not the stamper.
This pressing should not include a lyric sheet.
Many collectors have removed the lyric sheets from their large ring pressings to place with their marbled and white copies.
The jacket is glossier than subsequent pressings.
Note: do not confuse this copy with the S-repress, which is identical with S7 and S10 etched into the wax:
