Original 1972 UK First Press
Rare EMI Contract Pressing
For Island on Pink Rim
ILPS 9207 A - 1U & ILPS 9207 B - 1U
This is a very RARE EMI Contract Pressing!!!
A lovely copy of a very rare First Press of the fabulous LP from Sandy Denny. It is in Excellent condition, with very little in the way of paper marks and a rarely played, cherished copy of an even rarer LP!
Bought by me, owned by me and seldom played by me... AND I am from Banbury, near Cropredy where Fairport Convention and indeed Sandy Denny lived, worked, performed and drank and I bought this LP after seeing them at the Banbury Folk Attic!
It is, as can be seem from the A1U/B1U Matrices, First Press, but this also has a unique pedigree, as it was pressed at EMI, at the famous Hayes Pressing Plant, noted for its Beatles' pressings and as such it comes complete with its unique and rare
EMI Mothers and Stampers, being the codes in the run-off area of the vinyl, denoting numbering in the pressing process and because of this, easy to trace right back to the First Presses.
Its Mothers are Side One '1' & Side Two '1'! Its Stampers are Side One 'GD', being '10' and Side Two 'GD', being '10'! This sets this LP at the earliest Press and certainly the in the lowest of those precious Mother & Stamper EMI Codes I have ever come across, even with The Beatles and it is rare to have matching Stampers, too.
Contracting out, by Island, for pressing at EMI was possibly due to strike action at Island, as during 1971, 1972 & 1973, through to 1974, the UK was rife with strikes and EMI, in 1972, had their own strike, when The Beatles ''White Album'' was then pressed at the Pathe Marconi Plant in France and then imported, back into the UK! Decca also used EMI for 'contract pressing' and so, with this fantastic LP, we see an EMI press and I have a feeling it was due to Island issues, and possible pressing strikes and it is RARE!
The vinyl is lovely, with great lustre and that heavy EMI early 70s vinyl.
The outer sleeve or cover is a textured, non laminated finish and is super condition, with just the usual corner 'whites' but a sgood solid spine, with no damage or marks.
I am selling a number of my own, well looked after Fairport Convention and Sandy Denny LPs, so take a look and if you are keen on any, let me know or just bid and good luck! Some are ''Buy it Now'', too, so you have a chance to get it whilst you can!
Any questions, please ask.
Thanks!
