Label/Format: MGM – original yellow and black format (Please see my label scan).

Label Conditions: Both in fantastic conditions: these yellow and black UK MGM labels are not seen often and rarely much better than this. Very clean, fresh and hugely attractive with only very light, fine and faint spindle marks and no wear around the hole area. Side two have barely any at all and try finding this magnificent record better

Warps: Assume all records I offer have no warping of any significance and all tracking is easy and effortless and should play on all turntables and even ‘budget’ decks.

Weight of this Record: 136 grams. A very good solid weight.

Rarity: Scarce: UK pressings of this album in original mono in this superb condition will rarely surface. This too the earliest first ever pressing with prized 1 G mothers and stampers each side. Most of a certain will remember the wonderful catchy single, but the albums sales were very modest and this Sandy was not such a well-known name in the UK.

Brief Info: This is an absolute gem of an album – issued in the ‘Summer of Love’ and the title song was a catchy hit single. Posey is often pigeon-holed as a country singer, but this is not really the case. Her songs are varied with a blend of popular and country. ‘Single Girl’ is instantly likeable with an infectious melody, it sold well in both the US and UK but the album itself surprisingly failed to do so. The 45 was reissued in the UK in 1975 where it again entered the charts. This mono record, now 45-years-old is in absolutely superb condition and appears hardly even played. A beautiful cover, labels, playing surfaces and sound quality. This is just so-60s and anyone who enjoys music of that time with that certain sound and charm will treasure this beautifully preserved album.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): which hardly does this splendid sleeve justice. A single format with front laminate. The wraps around the closed edges and ends on three external rear flipbacks. Printed and made in England by Ernest J. Day and this has the correct mono catalogue number.

Lamination & Front: Gorgeous and this is the first one of these I have ever seen. An album way under-valued in the guides, finding this cover (and record) like this will never prove easy. The laminate has super shine, clarity and freshness. Any marks or traces or dulling, even under light are tiny and faint. Barely a noteworthy crease to be seen either and no lifts or blisters. The right edge sees the laminate end short of full width, the exposed strip is immaculate and totally blemish-free. Try finding this better.

Cover Back: Just the merest hints or traces of darkening around the edges but little else. The mildest hints of ageing possible that gives this vintage cover that more ‘authentic’ look. No rubbing, creases and the unprotected back panel is lovely. All three flipbacks are hugely impressive as well with no damage, clean and solid. The ends have no burring and have avoided any grime-line formation. This complements the magnificent front supremely well.

Top Edge: Totally unworn and even here, the laminate retains shine and absolutely scuff-free.

Bottom Edge: As above.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Little short of as made: very clean and sharp with barely any hint of wear. This has even avoided any thickening or burring and is guaranteed untrimmed. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: The spine is stone-cold Mint: solid, straight with no compression and folded square. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked laminate.

Corners: All are like brand new with crisp undinked or rubbed pointed corner tips. I have seldom seen a cover this age looking so neat and precise.

Cover Summary: A hugely impresisve all-round example of this elusive 60’s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find better. This beautiful item should please most-all collectors of classic 60s popular music.

The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT(+): and again little to fault on such a fragile piece. A plain white, solid unlined inner that again has aged little. Any darkening of the seam adhesive is very mild and light indeed. Minimal creasing and all edges unsplit with no repairs.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT(++): a super visual copy that is very clean, shiny, intense black and very solidly pressed. A copy with minimal plays on all the evidence with any surface marks few, light and faint. A slight ‘heat’ sheen is seen on side one purely in manufacture – this has NO sound or audio affect whatsoever and try finding a better first press 1G / 1G mono copy of this record. Visually very impressive and no damaging heavy tracking stylus have inflicted any wear to these ultra clean grooves. This near time-piece record should please most collectors again.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This exceptional record plays even above it’s high visual grading with practically nothing to fault. Strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is very high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds barely even registered and no pops or clicks were noted and this is an exceptional clean pressing. Sandy’s voice is beautifully precise and clear with no clipping, distortions or breakup. This will rarely be heard better and that famous catchy title track will simply bring those memories flooding back. Few copies will match, let alone outperform this ultimate first pressing I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp, I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been clearly well stored and carefully handled, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this wonderful record. This offers that perfect sound of the 60s and deserves to be heard again soon. This copy will prove immensely difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended. An original UK pressing of this album will seldom be seen or offered and possibly never better.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
