Jazz and Poetry session recorded in Rome in 1962 and published for the cultural series record of the "International Institute of Record". This issue SIL 4091 is dedicated to Poetry and Jazz of the American Beat Generation and focused on the poetry of Frank O'Hara and Allen Ginsberg.

The two sides of this VERY RARE EP shows the above listed poems recited by italian actor Giancarlo Sbragia with the pulsing jazz of the SANTUCCI & SCOPPA Quintet, in a full emotional session of jazz and poetry.

ENZO SCOPPA

Born in Rome in December 6 1934, he starts studying sax at 17. His first musical experiences are San Remo and St. Vincent Jazz Festivals of 1961. He performs at Comblain La Tour and Montreaux Festivals as well as in many other concerts with SANTUCCI- SCOPPA QUINTET. SANTUCCI-SCOPPA are the old-skool kings of Italian Jazz. The trumpet and tenor players Cicci Santucci and Enzo Scoppa led the group. Having been playing together since the late 60’s they are the most iconic duo that the Italian collector jazz scene has seen ever. Their album On The Underground Round was a milestone in the European jazz-funk collectors’ movement. Besides playing with several, different Jazz Groups with many Artists such as Romano Mussolini, Kenny Clark, Collatina, Marcello Rosa, Eddy Palermo, ENZO SCOPPA he's always been part of Nunzio Rotondo Band with which he attended Festivals in Pescara, Padova, Bergamo, Ischia and many concerts, meeting with a huge, personal success both with audiences and Jazz critics who spent a lot of enthusiastic words to comment and describe his performances.

CICCI SANTUCCI

Francesco Santucci, said, "Cicci" (Rome, April 21, 1939) is an Italian composer and trumpeter.
He began studying trumpet at age 13 with a band teacher, then further study with a teacher at the conservatory.
He graduated in 1969 from the Conservatory of Foggia Umberto Giordano, after the already debuted as a trumpeter in 1956.
In 1971 he graduated as an arranger at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
This trumpet soloist of the RAI (Italian National Broadcast) has played and collaborated with many of the most important musicians of the Jazz World (Lionel Hampton, Gato Barbieri, Kenny Clarke, Gil Evans, among others) and composing for movies (Armando Trovaioli, Riz Ortolani, and Ennio Morricone, for which he recorded, among numerous soundtracks, part of the trumpet solo in the movie "The Legend of the Pianist on the ocean."
Considered one of the "pioneers" of Italian jazz, has participated in important international festivals like the Festival of Comblain La Tour (in Belgium in 1961), the Montreux Festival (Switzerland in 1967, with Antonello Vannucchi, Gege Munari and Giovanni Thomas), the Festival of Juan Les Pins (France in 1969, with Lilian Terry), and others.
Partnerships in Italy are many, including Charles Loffredo, Marcello Rosa, Tony Scott, Romano Mussolini, Enzo Scoppa (with whom he recorded several albums forming the famous SANTUCCI-SCOPPA group)), Roberto Podio, Maurizio Giammarco, Maurizio Majorana, Franco D'Andrea, Bruno Luke and Roger Biriaco Jacovella.
In 1971 he formed the group Living Music, with Gianfranco Montedoro, Andrea Carpi, Mandrake Som, Umberto Santucci Constantine and Albi, with whom he recorded the album To Allen Ginsberg, with texts from poems of America.

Jacket : EX

Light cardboard laminated cover, in excellent condition, with both perfect flipbacks and a couple of minimal lamination marks (on front, near the open seam, and on the back, close to the track list); sharp corners without bumps or wear, very light ringwear.

Vinyl : NM

Shiny vinyl, looks unplayed. Absolutely no wear or marks whatsoever. A real definitive copy for any serious demanding collector.

Catalogue/Label :

ISTITUTO INTERNAZIONALE DEL DISCO SIL 4091, original 1st and only italian pressing, mint label with no marks, no stickers (see scans).

GRADING CODE

Grading is VISUAL, under a bright light.

NM (Near Mint): Record has been opened, and probably played, but is in impeccable condition. I do not use "mint".

EX (Excellent): Has signs of use or storage, but still considered top collection quality. Jackets may display some very light wear; vinyl may have a few light sleeve marks only visible in the highest light. Sound will full and clear, with little if any noise (NOTE, some records are just pressed poorly).

VG+ (Very Good Plus): Still a great copy but has a bit more wear. Vinyl may have some light scuffs or scratches, but nothing deep. Jacket may have some ringwear or seamwear. Sound should be great, with minimal if any noise.

VG Very Good): A great play copy but clearly used. Vinyl will display many hairline scuffs or scratches, but will play with a tolerable amount of noise. Jacket may have splits and wear but will not be falling apart.

VG-(Very Good Minus): A used or worn copy, that has not been taken good care of. Vinyl will have many scuffs or scratches, but play through enjoyably despite audible background noise. Covers will have tears, splits, writing, or other issues.

VG+ Fair, Poor: A very rough copy. Will play through without skipping unless otherwise noted, although records of this grade are sold AS-IS.
