Description
Here's a real find. This is a one-sided music industry acetate of the already super-rare 45 "You Make Me Sick" by Satan's Rats. Privately pressed at Trident Studios, Wardour Street London in the year of punk 1977, this typically nasty, quintessential piece of snotty venom was later described by singer Paul Rencher as ..."exploring the classic motifs of nausea and vomiting, as induced by just about anyone who upset me in those days at Evesham College." The band even shirt-tailed on the current mood by running an ad campaign claiming "Never Mind The Pistols - Here's Satan's Rats".
As such they were never treated at the time as anything but late arrivals and second raters by their peers.
BUT. Since then SR's recordings have gained far greater respect. A great punk outfit making just the right noise. Today, serious punk collectors place the Rats alongside all the bands they aspired to be back then. Thus their ignored-at-the-time records have now become true worldwide rarities but surely none more so than this.
The condition of the disc - and you'll know acetates are notoriously brittle - is a strong VG+ if I'm being picky (though excellent is the term used for this state more often than not). There are NO deep scratches, pock marks or chips. Interestingly the label has been "customized" (by a band member?) to read Scuzzy Singles instead of DJM - it is very possible they hadn't been signed at the point of pressing. Some kind of "bullet-hole" doodle has been inked around the centre hole too! Also, the official label press pic has a bizarre extra apostrophe in Rats, ie, SATAN'S RAT'S. Plainly DJM couldn't be too bothered how this bunch of scruffy oiks actually spelled their name. After all, punk was just a phase right?
So, their first hundred mile an hour 45 in it's ultimate form. A one-sided test press acetate on that brittle shellac meant only for band members and/or DJM bosses to own. Indeed this may be the only one in the world. Amazingly this copy also has included with it a super scarce DJM Records press photograph of the group!
This is truly a one off piece of original UK punk history. There surely can't be another punk collection with one of these. The starting price is low and there is no reserve.
